The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for The Dragons of Chiroptera
Because The Dragons of Chiroptera was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

The storyline centres around a kingdom of dragons. A young dragon named Eclipse flees the captivity of Queen Scorch who had killed his mother before stealing her egg from her. The story follows the journey of Eclipse after he flees. I wouldn't have read the book as I wasn't intrigued by the blurb. Though, the thing I liked the most while sampling is how well the narrative is structured, transitioning from one character to another. Plus, the back and forth transition from past to present events was done flawlessly, and I was never confused with the narration. There were also some illustrations that made the read more interesting. However, for a children's book, I expected some more graphics. I wasn't able to find any errors and would rate the book as professionally edited. I saw an official OBC review. While I like the writing, I won't be reading the whole book as I'm not interested in the central themes of the book. I would recommend including illustrations in each chapter.

Given this book's colorful and illustrious cover, I certainly would have given the book a trial, even outside this program. The book's OBC review fanned my interest.
I liked everything about this book; I liked the simple diction and the interesting characters, but most of all, I liked the characters' unique, fiery names, like Scorch and Spark. Fantasy is my genre, and I enjoyed sampling this book, so I'm certainly going to complete it.
I didn't notice any errors while sampling the book. I don't think this book needs any improvement; it's just perfect.

It's been a long time I was so entranced by a book. I'm not very sure if I'd have tried to read this book outside the program based on its title and cover; I'm not very fond of fantasy tales. My opinion did a complete 360 degree turn in the opposite direction after sampling this book. First, the descriptive writing style reeled me into the read. Before I knew what was happening, I was at Location 126. I felt really bad about what happened to Tanzanite, but I'm doubly curious to know what becomes of her child. The book is professionally edited. However, there was a minor error in the sentence, “I could go with you?” asked by Princess Spark. The question should read, "Could I go with you?" Also, the comma in the sentence, "She was so entranced, that Tanzanite didn’t notice..." should be removed. I have no recommendations for improvement. I saw an OBC review that highly piqued my interest. I will finish reading the book.

The title "The Dragons of Choroptera" and the cover that depicts a dragon indicate that the book is about dragons. There is only one Amazon customer rating on the book, which is not a sufficient number for me to decide to sample the book. The Amazon summary of the story is very short and does not give a good glimpse on the theme. As I am generally not interested in dragon stories, I would have skipped sampling the book if not for the First Ten program. As I sampled through the book, I found the narration describing Tanzanite, a dragon, escaping another dragon army's attack on her. As I am not interested in the dragon stories, I am not going to read this book in full. I found the sample professionally edited. There were no grammatical or mechanical errors. What I liked most about the book is its wonderful narration. I don't have any recommendations for the improvement of the book. Although I found one OBC review of the book, my decision to not to read the book in full is based on my own sampling.

I would've still read the sample of the book even if it wasn't on BOTD because I loved the book's genre. I love YA with dragons and fantasy worlds. Eclipse as a name for a hybrid dragon is also excellent. I loved the sample. It was sad that Tanzanite was forced to flee from the only home she had ever known. But, I love Princess Spark's concern for her friend. The book started strong, so I'm hoping that it will maintain its greatness in the whole book. I would definitely finish reading this. I didn't notice any grammatical mistakes, and I don't have anything to recommend. I think that the book is exceptionally edited.

The title and the cover photo caught my attention because it's similar to the "Dragon Nest" movie. I feel a touch of emotions between Tanzanite and her son. This scenario will capture a lot of sci-fi readers. I like the flow of the narrative, its plot and the simple language being used. Though I prefer to watch a sci-fi story, this one piques my interest. I want to read the rest of the book. The book has an OBC review that gives enough details, and it helps me understand what is inside of this. Lastly, I don't see any typos, so I assume this book has been professionally edited. There's nothing I can recommend for improvement.

I like Dragon stories, so I was drawn to this book. I also like the cover, and as a child at heart, I enjoy some children’s books. I enjoyed the official book of the day review by OBC, the blurb, editorial review, and various customer reviews. These reviews made me eager to read about Eclipse and what the revelation of his powers could mean. After reading the first ten pages (I actually went further than the first ten pages), I can say I’ll definitely be completing this book this year. I enjoyed the writing style and wonder how Eclipse's family story will be revealed. I didn’t notice any errors while reading.

I’m not a fan of high fantasy stories, so I wouldn’t have sampled the book if it hadn’t been part of the First Ten program. The official OBC review did not convince me. I liked the exciting ending of the first chapter. I spotted a couple of typos throughout the first ten pages. For example, when the princess told Tanzanite that she was family, there was a typo in the form of a punctuation error at the end of the dialogue. Other than that, I don’t think that there was anything else that the author could’ve done better. However, I found the typos rather distracting. I’m not interested in reading the rest of the book.

I am not a big fan of dragon stories and fantasy in general, so reading the OBC reviewer’s comments about this book did little to entice me. While the cover is colorful and appealing, I found the title of the book quite hard to make out. This would definitely be something I would suggest changing to attract readers to take a closer look. Upon reading the sample, I was impressed by the lovely visual impressions the author gives through vivid descriptions. Tanzanite was described beautifully. There wasn’t anything I particularly disliked about the story so far, and I noted that there were no errors which indicate a professional edit. However, I would have liked to see an indent on the first word of each new paragraph, purely for ease of reading. While my personal preference makes this book an unsuitable choice for me, I am sure that younger readers and fans of fantasy novels would enjoy it. I, myself, will give it a miss.

When I saw the genre and cover, I was eager to sample this book. It reminds me of the children's books with dragons that I used to love. The OBC review and the sample convinced me to buy and read it. Eclipse, the main character, is a rare hybrid of two dragons from different tribes, and their union was considered forbidden. Just after Eclipse was born, the evil Queen Scorch hunted down his mother and raised him with disgust. I like the engaging writing style that helped me empathize with the protagonist's mother who was struggling to keep him safe. I look forward to reading more about the story of Eclipse. The book seems professionally edited, so I don't have suggestions for improvements.

I wasn’t planning on sampling this book because the blurb didn’t pique my interest. I’m not interested in reading a middle-grade book that involves mythical creatures. The vivid descriptions of this world make it easier for me to imagine it clearly. This is the aspect that I like, and I do not have anything to dislike. I’m not going to finish reading the book because I’m not interested in the premise. I’m also not the target audience for this book. The OBC review was really helpful to me. It gave me ideas on what to expect from the book. I did not notice any errors, so I thought the editing was flawless.

The cover and the official review from OBC are alright. Since the blurb's promising, I decided to give the sample a try. The sample is about a hybrid Drach named Eclipse. Queen Scorch killed his mother and took him with her, expecting that he would have some special powers.
I like the friendship between Eclipse and Lionfish. However, I would suggest another round of proofreading. Since the plot is interesting enough, I will buy this book.
Error example: Who knows, you're probably just an off-colored Star Drach" -> There should be a period after "Drach"

Based on the name of the book, I would have skipped the sample of the Dragons of Chiroptera if it hadn't been the OnlineBookClub's book of the day. Books about dragons are not ones that I normally read, but the cover art caught my attention. The description on Amazon.com was also intriguing. There is only one customer review, but it did not affect my decision to read the sample. The imagery used for the dragons and surroundings was vivid and kept my attention, which is what I liked the most. I don't think that any improvements need to be made, and there were no errors in the first ten pages. Because I was invested in more than the first ten pages, I have decided to finish reading this book. An official OnlineBookClub review exists for this title, but I did not need to read it to make a decision to finish the rest of the book. If a reader likes books with dragons and excellent descriptions, they may like this book.

I would not have sampled this book based on the genre, blurb, OBC review, cover and title. The land of dragons didn’t seem like something I’d be interested in. After reading the first ten pages, I won’t be finishing this book. I thought the language was excellent for a young audience. The two young Drachs are relatable characters for young readers. I also thought it did a great job of bringing emotion in right away with the first scene in the cave. However, the story of dragons and their powers and how the queen treats them just isn’t for me. This might be something my kids will read when they’re older, but I won’t be purchasing and finishing it at this time. There wasn’t anything that needs improvement, and the book did seem to be professionally edited.

After reading the book summary on Amazon, the plot just didn't pique my interest, so I would not have read the sample without The First Ten. I liked the exciting beginning with Tanzanite trying to escape. It was very well written, and I found myself worried for Tanzanite and Eclipse and hoping they would escape Queen Scorch, even though I knew they wouldn't.
However, the well-written beginning didn't make me any more interested in the plot and neither did the official review. Therefore, I am not going to read the rest of the book. I did not see any editing mistakes, and there is nothing that needs to be improved.

The Dragons of Chiroptera by Milan Seeff is a young adult/children's fantasy book about mythical creatures, such as dragons. If I didn't sample this book, I wouldn't read it based on its Official OnlineBookClub review and its customer reviews since the plot didn't interest me. After sampling it, I didn't change my mind and I won't read the entire book because its premise didn't catch my interest. However, the book seems professionally edited, there's nothing to be improved in it, and my favorite aspect was the fact that the narrative was fast and direct, with only a few and necessary descriptions scenes.

The cover is incredibly artistic and eye-catching, along with the title they form a combination that should appeal to interested readers, especially young adults. In general, I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre or dragon stories. The blurb expresses the story revolves around an orphaned “Drach” hybrid, the son of a forbidden union, who realizes that family is not always related by blood. There is only one customer review, which is favorable. Based on these comments, I might give this book a try. The first ten pages focus on Eclipse. Initially, they tell about his birth, and then when he is a young Drachlet stalked by the wicked Queen Scorch. She hopes Eclipse will develop special powers from being a hybrid. I liked the physical description of the Drachs. It makes the reader imagine them and differentiate each one from the others. It seems that each kind of Drach has specific positive traits, for instance, the Light Drachs have empathy and the ability to see goodness. This poses a world of good beings ruled by an evil one, which is a successful formula in the fantasy genre. In these first pages, the story is oriented to Eclipse's desire to know about his family and have one. Until now, only Lionfish seems to be part of it. I identify situations in which feelings are highlighted, such as the love Eclipse's father and Tanzanite should have felt to dare to violate the laws. Friendship is also emphasized, like between Eclipse and Lionfish. The official OnlineBookClub review indicates the book is geared towards teenagers and includes a lot of action with unexpected twists. The editing looks outstanding as I didn't see any details to comment on. Overall, I didn't see anything that I believe could be improved. The plot seems well constructed, but I'm not a fan of the fantasy genre and am not a teenager either. Therefore, I think I will not read the rest of the book.

The cover and title of this book seem average for the genre. I would not have sampled this without the First Ten program because the blurb was too vague. The first few pages were well edited. I felt bad for Eclipse and the way the Queen treated him. The OBC review was positive, but it did not convince me to continue reading. This book is for a younger audience, so I will not be reading the rest. I do not have any suggestions for the author.

I like reading fantasy books containing dragons and this is quite an interesting one. What I liked most about this book was that the author wasted no time to get the action started. As soon as the baby hybrid dragon is born, we witnessed its mom being killed.
The sample I read was professionally edited. Had I not read the sample, I would choose to read this book based on the title, cover, blurb, customer reviews, and the official online book club review. I don't think this book needs any improvement. I will be reading the entire book because I'm intrigued to know the fate of the baby dragon.

This book's cover didn't entice me to read it. The OBC review dissuaded me when it mentioned that the author narrates the story of a young dragon stolen from its mother and raised in a palace. That storyline doesn't appeal to me, so I won't read the rest of the book. When I read the first ten pages, I liked that although Tanzanite had been banished from princess Sparks' entourage, she tried her best to protect her egg and hatch a healthy young one. I spotted no errors in the text, so I will conclude that it underwent professional editing. There's nothing I disliked about the bit I read, so I wouldn't change anything about it.

I would not have picked this book up based on the cover alone. From the cover art and title, it looks to be a fantasy book about dragons. This does not seem like the type of book I would enjoy reading. The Online Book Club review confirmed the genre of the book. However, it gave the book a very positive review. This increased my interest in the book. I didn’t read any additional customer reviews. One of the errors I saw in the first ten pages was on the first page of the first chapter. This chapter begins on the same page as the dedication. I believe this is a formatting error and the first chapter was intended to begin on the next page. I didn’t see any area that the author could improve upon in the story. It describes a dragon named Tanzanite fearing for her life and escaping with her egg ready to hatch. She looks for a safe place to have the baby dragon hatch from its egg. When he is born, he is named Eclipse. I think this book is likely intended for a young adult audience. I think the first ten pages would draw readers into the story immediately, if they are fans of fantasy novels. Because this genre is not one I enjoy reading, I will not finish reading this book.

It is clear that the book belongs to the fantasy genre just by looking at the title and cover illustration; I am not in the market for books in this genre, so I would not have sampled it. I have also come across a positive OBC review of the book; still, the positive OBC review would not change my mind regarding sampling because of the genre mismatch. I have also seen a couple of grammar errors – more editing (which is my suggestion) will help to improve the book quality. For example, at 2%, there is an instance of an erroneously used hyphen, where an em dash should have been used: "...find us now (–) not after making...". However, I appreciate that the author has chosen to include a bit of Tanzanite's background at the beginning, which will help the reader to better understand what is going on. For example, Tanzanite is a Light Drach, and she used to be a servant in the Royal Fire Palace before Queen Scorch banished her from Princess Spark's entourage for breaking "the strictest rules of the tribe and kingdom". To further improve book quality, I also suggest changing the font colour of the title on the cover illustration; currently, it is difficult to read as the white colour of the title font blends in too much with the illustration. I will not be reading the rest of the book as I am not in the market for fantasy fiction.

Even though I thought the colors on the cover were attractive, I would not have chosen to read this book based on the cover or the title. The blurb stated that the book was for children ages 7-13, but the OBC review recommended it for teenagers. Neither the blurb nor the review changed my mind about reading the book. There was an error on the first page. The word western should not be capitalized. I did not like the obvious names of Scorch and Spark for the dragons. I did like the line "Keep your scales on." I do not have any suggestions for the author. I will not finish reading the book because I am not a child interested in dragons.

It became obvious to me that this is a supernatural fantasy book when I saw the cover and title. In light of it, I read the OBC official review of this book because I was curious to know the setting of the story. The OBC official review helped me understand that this book revolves around a mythical kingdom of dragons. This information encouraged me to read the sample of the book before purchasing it. After reading the first ten pages, I realized that this book was not professionally edited because I found some grammatical errors in the sample. For example, the sentence, "In the hopes of avoiding her attention, and the subsequent wrath that often followed, Tanzanite would dust her wings with ashes every morning.” The sentence could have been as follows. "In the hopes of avoiding her attention and the subsequent wrath that often followed, Tanzanite would dust her wings with ashes every morning.” The thing l liked the most in this sample is Tanzanite's determination to teach her offspring empathy and the ability to see goodness in the world despite none of the legendary Super Drachs having used their powers for good. Unfortunately, I found the names of the Drachs very confusing because the names like eclipse created some confusion while reading as words like ellipse has some other meaning in supernatural fantasy stories. The author should have some different sets of names that do not have words like an ellipse. I would suggest the author for a round of professional editing and look at my problems as described above. After looking at all these aspects, I decided not to purchase and read this book today. I will wait until the author looks at my suggestions so that while reading the book, I can enjoy the story without any confusion.

The title and cover of the book are not that eye-catchy to build curiosity in the mind of the reader. However, the sample did turn out to be more interesting than I expected and I'm sure that teenagers would enjoy reading about the mythical creatures in this book. I did not come across any major grammatical errors in the first ten pages, except for a sentence that perhaps requires an extra comma ('She had broken the strictest rules of the tribe and kingdom {insert comma} causing Queen Scorch to banish her').
I do agree with the opinion of some of the reviewers, that this book might be too violent for very young children. That said, I shall not be reading this book since the plot seems too straightforward and I am not intrigued enough to find out what happens in the story. If the description had some suspense element to it, I might have considered finding out more about the fate of the protagonist, Eclipse.

Dragons don't really excite me, so I wouldn't have given the book a second look outside of the program. The first pages did not change my mind; I don't read much fantasy. I liked that the mother dragon tried her best to protect her egg, and I was saddened when she was killed off so soon. The errors I found follow: In the dedication, "This book is dedicated to my grandparents, Carmella Seeff, Kogila Moodley and Heribert Adam who inspired me to write" needed a comma after "Adam" unless only "Adam" inspired the author. In Chapter 1, "'Besides, you have a real family to go back to.' Tanzanite whispered" should have used a comma, not a period, before the dialogue tag. "Who knows, you're probably just an off-colored Star Drach" in Chapter 2 had no end punctuation. I suggest improving the editing. The official OBC reviewer cautioned that very young children may find the book too long and too violent. I am no young child, but I do not think the book is for me too.

I love this genre. The official OBC review made me want to read the book. I could not find any error in the first ten pages. The Light Drach Tanzanite gave birth to her child, Moonbeam. She was persecuted for her union with Moonbeam's father. I liked the story and the way the author conveyed a lot of backstory through a few dialogues. I had no suggestions to offer and would read the book.

Upon perusing the book’s official OBC review and Amazon page, I decided not to purchase the fantasy children’s book. I am not a child nor a teenager anymore, so I don’t think this story is written for someone like me. I am also not interested in reading the journey of Eclipse, the dragon protagonist of the title. Sampling the book failed to change my mind. I would not acquire it for the same reasons I already stated above. I am not intrigued by the “real powers” of Eclipse, and I am not interested in reading what his intentions would be in using his superpowers. The first ten pages include the first two chapters and a few pages of the third chapter. What I liked most is when it is revealed that all the cases of Super Drachs in the past have grown into evil monsters who only use their superpowers for their own sake. I was not able to note any errors in the sample. The book seems professionally edited to me. I have no advice to offer to the author.

After reading the first ten pages of this book (The Dragons of Chiroptera by Milan Seeff), I’ve realized that the book seems to have been well-written and riveting. I have liked the author’s narration skills and the flow of the story. Concisely, the book’s cover page was okay, and the title was also okay. I liked the OnlineBookClub review; it gave insight into what the book was all about. However, I noticed a punctuation error in the sample I read: “Years of servitude at the palace had hardened her (,)and she had learned how to survive in harsh conditions.” However, I think it was professionally edited. Consequently, I have no advice for the author of the book. Otherwise, the Amazon website’s book description was informative, and the storyline is also absorbing. Having read the sample and the OnlineBookClub review, I’m not going to finish reading this book because I’m not a fan of dragon stories.

The story follows the journey of a young dragon with extraordinary abilities named Eclipse, who is determined to find out the identity of his parents. Little does he know, he is the first hybrid dragon in the kingdom of Chiropetra. To be honest, I would not have read the book without this program. Although I enjoy reading action-packed novels, I am not interested in reading fantasy novels. For this reason, neither the OBC review nor the first ten pages convinced me to read the rest of the story. I enjoyed the author's writing style, though; it was descriptive and pleasant to read. I also liked that the first ten pages were filled with suspense and action. The only thing I disliked, however, was that there were some errors that distracted me from my reading. For example, there should not be a comma after "prison" in the following sentence: "The torments they shared growing up in their palatial prison, had bonded the Drachlets for life." (page 9) I noticed a missing period at the end of the following sentence: "Who knows, you’re probably just an off-colored Star Drach" (page 10) All things considered, I would only suggest another round of editing.

I fell in love with this book when I saw the cover and title. I would have chosen the book based on these if I hadn't read the first ten pages. The official OBC review, as well as the first ten pages, confirmed my initial reaction. There were no other reviews. I loved reading about the dragons. Eclipse interested me most. The first ten pages of this book chronicle a gripping story, and young readers will find a treat in this book. If not for my hate of fantasy and dragons stories, I would have finished reading this book. It’s worth noting that the earlier chapters were well written and enjoyable. I think both the book’s cover page and the title were attractive. The author did a good job in editing the book, and I would say the book was professionally edited; I found no objective errors. The book had an official Online Book Club review, and the review was insightful enough to answer most of the questions I would have before selecting this book. Overall, I have no advice for the author; I believe the book is well written, and I enjoyed the flow of the story.

If it hadn't been for the First Ten program, I wouldn't have sampled this book based on its title, cover, or Official OnlineBookClub review because young adult novels are not usually my favorite. After sampling the book, I will be reading the rest of it because I liked the characters, and I was intrigued by the mythical world created by the author. My favorite part of what I read was Eclipse - I have a feeling I will enjoy seeing his character develop throughout the story. I don't think the book needs improvement, and it appears professionally edited overall. On page 7, I believe the repetition of the phrase "Eclipse shot back" was a mistake (“She’s not my mother,” Eclipse shot back, “She can’t make me do anything,” Eclipse shot back.).

I wouldn't have read this book outside the First Ten program because its title and cover page hinted at this read falling under the fantasy genre, which I don't like. I liked the use of vivid descriptions. I could picture how the little Drachlet popped out of the eggshell. I believe this book wasn't exceptionally edited as I noticed a grammatical error (The seven tribes were collectively known as the “Dragons of Chiroptera”, but the laws of the land had created conflict between the tribes. The comma should come before the closing quotation mark). Having read the OBC review, I will not buy this novel because I don't find teenagers' novels fascinating. I recommend incorporating a table of contents to guide readers

This book has a pretty cover. I was interested to read more about it. The official Online Book Club review that I read stated that this is a book for teens. I read the sample pages and did not find any editing errors. This book seems professionally edited. I like that the dragons have human qualities. The young dragon, Eclipse, has a best friend that helps him through tough times. Teens could probably relate to these characters. I have no suggestions for improvement. I am going to read this book because I hope it will turn out to be one my teen will like.

After looking at the cover and title, the book seems like a usual fiction book about dragons that I, generally, avoid reading. Then, I read the Official OBC review of the book (after that I don't need any other blurb or review) where I came to know that the book contains too violence for me. If the book is not part of the first ten, then I will never read it. Usually, I like to read books that can add some value in my life. So, I am going to pass this book because of the reasons mentioned above. But as we all know, everything has some positive aspects. After reading the sample, I found that the language in the book is well-structured. That is my favourite thing about the book. I found no errors in the book. I have no suggestion for the book.

Okay, confession time. I’ve already read the book, so the answer to the main question is obviously, “Yes, I’m going to read it!” I admit the picture on the cover was what first caught my interest. The title, alongside what looked a lot like a pegasus but was presented as a dragon, heightened my curiosity as well. As short as it was, the blurb didn’t do much for me, and there was only one customer response, so that didn’t help either. There was no OBC review on the Amazon site either. If there had been, I would have been interested to see what the reviewer thought. At any rate, the sample completely captured my heart from the first scene of Tanzanite fleeing for her life and being determined to protect her child. My favorite part of the sample was the tender moment between Tanzanite and 'Moonbeam' when he first opened his eyes and saw her. I was both heartbroken and angered at Queen Scorch when Tanzanite was (apparently) killed. (We both know better, don’t we? I love happy endings!) I loved reading the story of Eclipse/Moonbeam struggling to find his identity. Many children are struggling with the same thing, and books such as this help them find relatable characters. That helps them feel not so alone. The one thing that confused me and that I would try and fix was that 'talons' were referred to when all the pictures plainly displayed the drachs having hooves. There was a disconnect there. Although the book seemed well-edited, I did find one ‘apparent’ error in the sample where Eclipse and Lionfish’s names were accidentally switched. “You did it?!” said Lionfish, when Eclipse told him about the magically appearing pawn. “I’m sure I saw something,” Eclipse explained, “I think she saw it too?” “Wow,” Eclipse looked at his friend in admiration.” In the last sentence, I believe it would be Lionfish, not Eclipse looking at ‘his friend’ in admiration.

The cover is beautiful, but the ability to read the title needs to be improved. I would use something bolder because it blends with the background. Based on the topic of dragons, I would assume this to be a fantasy story and would have sampled the book. I enjoyed the vividly descriptive writing, especially when describing Eclipse's mother physically and emotionally. I did notice a minor error, but that didn't detract from the overall story. Other than changing the title to stand out more, I have no improvements to offer about the story. The OBC review was encouraging, but the actual first ten pages influenced my interest. I would like to finish reading the book.
Error:
“Oh, keep your scales on. I'm just trying to protect you?” Lionfish reminded him.
I am not convinced that this was a question as much as it was a statement. An exclamation point or a period would be more appropriate.

Before reading the book's first pages, I wasn't interested in it because nothing on the cover or the title got my attention. After sampling the book, I don't want to continue reading it because the story didn't captivate me. I like that Tanzanite's child was going to be the first hybrid ever, it's a cool origin story. This book seems professionally edited but commas should go inside quotation marks and there was one outside of them on page 2 (after "Dragons of Chiroptera"). Also, this book has an official Online BookClub review. There was nothing I saw that needed improvement, other that the editing issue mentioned before. Neither the blurb, customer reviews, nor editorial reviews affect my decision not to read the book.

The cover and title look like a fantasy story for children. Although I enjoy books for kids, I seldom read fantasy and magic. So, I will skip this outside the program. Likewise, the blurb is short but gives enough idea about the plot. There is only one customer review. After sampling, I appreciate the topics covered in the story. It touches on identity, family structure, diversity, and tolerance. But it seems that there are many characters and backstories squeezed in the book, considering its length. It might be possible to add independent or standalone volumes to explore these backstories. Also, I suggest adding illustrations of the different Drach types at the start of the book. It might help in creating mental images while reading. As for editing, here is an example of an issue that I noticed.
Page 3. Spacing. Consider removing the extra space between "together" and "had."
Their time together had come to an end.
Their time together[]had come to an end.
The official OnlineBookClub review is enthusiastic and insightful. But I will still pass.

If I had not read the sample as part of the First Ten program, I would not have read the book. I think the cover looks like a middle-grade novel and I may be too old for it. I think the title on the cover could also be darker and bolder because I am having trouble reading it. After reading the sample, I have not changed my mind. I did like the really interesting character names of Eclipse, Scorch, etc. However, I also think another round of editing could help this book. I found an error in the sample where a period was used instead of a comma in dialogue punctuation: "'...you have a real family to go back to.' Tanzanite whispered." Sometimes the writing also read weirdly because of punctuation: "I'm just trying to protect you?" was a line where I think a period (or a comma, due to dialogue attribution) should have been used instead of a question mark. Those are the biggest things I'd change. The official review on OnlineBookClub did not affect my decision.

The front cover looks uneventful. The title is barely visible. No matter how hard I strained my eyes, I couldn't read the title of the book. The first ten pages changed my opinion from the original guess. It was free on Amazon, using Kindle Unlimited to download it. I will continue reading the book even though the story looks a bit complex and confusing. The storyline is still consistent. The book had some formatting issues. The first chapter wasn't well positioned like the standard formatting type. The story idea was well thought out, but the execution wasn't well planned and formulated. The first ten pages of the story were centered around Tanzanite and her egg, which was hatching. She needed a safe place for her egg. Her life had been turbulent; she worked as a servant in the Royal Fire Palace, and the odor of fear had become all she knew. She was banished from the kingdom for breaking the rules of the tribe and was also banished from Princess Spark's entourage. But she was interested in teaching her son to see the goodness in the world. Ironically, she was killed trying to protect him.
What needs improvement would be the storyline, which needs to be less confusing and more interesting with realistic names for characters. Too many characters shouldn't be used too rapidly.
There are no reviews or ratings on Kindle Unlimited yet.

The first chapter was sad because Tanzanite just wanted to protect her baby. It’s a good start to the story and makes me interested in seeing what will happen to little Moonbeam. I like the cover image also. I didn’t see any typos or grammar issues, so the book looks professionally edited to me. The OBC review was also positive, so I’m interested in reading more. I have no suggestions for improvements. I occasionally enjoy fantasy, so I would have been intrigued enough by the cover to sample the book if I saw it outside of OBC.

After reviewing the title, genre, cover, blurb, and review of this book, I would not have read this book. This one is geared more towards young adults and I don't think that I'd enjoy a fantasy novel geared towards that audience. After reading the first ten pages I didn't change my mind and therefore will not be buying and reading the rest of this book. I liked how the author worked their own terminology into the book's text. Things like "Drach" and "Drachlet" easily became second nature within even the short sample that I read. That being said, I realised quick enough that I really am not the target demographic for this one and therefore I won't be reading the rest of it. The book looked well written and edited; I didn't see any errors in the sample that I rad. The thing I would have improved from the sample I read is simply to do with subsection formatting. At one point in the middle of a chapter, a section break within the text was denoted simply by a left justified "-------". This, in my opinion, looked slightly unprofessional and could have been presented better. At the least, the seven hyphens could have been centred on the page. There was an official OBC review, but it did not affect my decision at all.

As a fan of fantasy, I was content with what was present in the first bit and was intrigued by the plot. I would pick up this book from its genre, title, cover, and review, as I admire dragons and mystery. Unfortunately, tons of errors were present.
Page 1, “The seven tribes were collectively known as the “Dragons of Chiroptera”(,) but the laws of the land had created conflict between the tribes.”-comma outside the quotation mark.
Page 3, “my family(.)” (the) princess had said, as the Light Drach servant paused, choking back tears in the doorway of the royal chamber.”-small letter after period.
I found up to 3 misplaced question marks. Ex. Page 7, ‘“Oh, keep your scales on. I’m just trying to protect you?”’
I advise the author to get this book edited as these errors ruined my experience. Nonetheless, I would still read it and perhaps review it, but a star would be deducted due to the editing.

The book cover is colourful and attractive. As I like dragons, I would pick this book up if I would see it in a bookstore. The blurb and OBC review give a good description of the book, and although the book is written for young adults, do they make me interested in the sample. The first ten pages are well edited and written in an engaging way. I immediately empathised with Tanzanite and was shocked to find out she was killed before the first chapter was over. I have decided to read the rest of this book and thank the author for the opportunity to have a free copy. I have no suggestions for improvement.

Based on the cover, title, and blurb, I would not have sampled this book if I were not part of this program. It looked like a YA sci-fi book, and I rarely read either of those genres. When I saw the brevity of the book and that it was listed in the children’s genre, that piqued my curiosity. Reading the first ten pages, I thought the vocabulary was a bit advanced, but middle school students and up would be able to appreciate it. Surprisingly, I am interested to see if Eclipse will grow into his hybrid powers, so I will finish this book. I thank the author for the free copy. The book appeared professionally edited; I did not spot any grammatical errors in the first ten pages. I noticed some pictures introducing chapters later in the book. This is good, as it will keep the interest of the reader as this age group transitions from picture books. The featured OnlineBookClub review reinforced my decision to finish this read, but other editorial reviews and customer reviews had no bearing. I have no suggestions for improvement.

I'm not a fan of dragons, so the book's cover or blurb didn't affect me. The OBC review highlighted some positive qualities, but I still didn't think the book was for me. There were no customer reviews that I could see. The book's world seems very unique and well-built, with a hierarchical system and very strict rules. I don't understand why Princess Spark would care so much about Tanzanite, who is just a servant. It's hard for me to relate to a dragon, so I don't want to continue reading this book, but I can see why children would love it. I can't recommend anything that would improve it. The book requires more editing, as I found some errors that can be ignored, like "fiirst fearfully."

The cover is appropriate for the topic, though, since I'm not much of a fantasy reader, it wouldn't have caught my attention. The blurb is too brief (not even two lines long), which gives little opportunity to the reader to decide if this is a book they would enjoy. Adding to all this the lack of ratings, I wouldn't have bought the book based on my first impressions.
Though the first ten pages didn't convince me to read the book, there are some things I liked, namely the use of language. There are some awe-inspiring images, such as "He looked like he had been sculpted from solid moonlight." I also liked how the author adapted our expressions to dragon-appropriate expressions such as when Lionfish tells Eclipse: "Oh, keep your scales on." The only thing I disliked is that the fast pacing allows for little introduction to the world created by the author. I don't know, for example, what a "Dragonshade dart" is supposed to be. What worries me is that, if I find it confusing, younger readers would be even more confused. There are some editing mistakes. I know we are usually encouraged to be lenient with comma usage but sometimes they do change the meaning of a sentence. For example, the missing comma in the following sentence: "Hang on my little one" (page 3). Also, on page 6, "absentmindedly" should not be hyphenated: "Absent-mindedly, she picked a dead scale from her left nostril and flicked it onto the Light Drach’s crumpled frame." I suggest fixing these mistakes and expanding the blurb. The official OBC review didn't convince me to read the book because fantasy is a genre I rarely enjoy, and this book feels too childish for me.

'The Dragons of Chiroptera' is a children's book. It is written by Milan Seeff. The kingdom has seven tribes. They are collectively called the Dragons of Chiroptera. Tanzanite is about to hatch her child. Queen Scorch's army is in pursuit of Tanzanite. She left Princess Spark's entourage to protect her unborn child. Tanzanite is killed soon after giving birth. The young drachlet was taken in by its mother's killer. Eclipse is adopted by Queen Scorch. Eclipse is the first hybrid of Chiroptera. Eclipse had grown close to Lionfish. I like the way the author builds a believable kingdom of dragons. The editing is good. There is nothing in need of an improvement. The OBC review is insightful. I would skip this book based on the cover, title, genre, blurb, editorial reviews, and customer reviews as I did not get invested in the blurb. I will skip the book because I am not interested in the storyline as such.

I would choose to read a sample of this book because of the title and cover. I also read the blurb but it did not affect my decision. At the time of writing this short review, there were no customer reviews written and no editorial reviews. The title of the book is interesting and direct. The cover of the book fully corresponds to the title. I’m not going to read the book because it’s not the genre I prefer. While reading the sample I did not notice any typos or errors and the book seems like it is professionally edited. Reading the sample did not change my mind from my original guess. I like how the hatching of little Drachlet is described in detail because it looks very authentic. I don't think anything needs to be improved in the book. The book has an Official OnlineBookClub review, I read it but it also did not influence my decision.

I would not have checked this book out based on the cover and title because I am not into fantasy books. After reading the OBC review, I decided to read a portion. I did not read any other reviews or blurbs. I thought it was somewhat interesting as I read the first ten pages. I liked the descriptions of the dragons. The first ten pages were about Tanzanite getting caught with a dragon from another Drach tribe. Then she was running for her life because the egg she was carrying was about to hatch. She made it to a cave just in time for the egg to hatch. She admired her little son when she got hit with a Dragonshade dart in the neck, and her son got carried away to the queen. She wanted him because she knew he would have extraordinary superpowers. As I read the first ten pages, I did not find anything that needed improvement. There were some places in dialog where a simple sentence ended with a question mark instead of a period. Because they are in the dialogue, they aren't counted as errors. I did not find any other mistakes as I read. The first ten pages were interesting enough, but as I stated earlier, I am not into fantasy, so I have decided not to read any more of the book.

To begin, the cover is awful. This cover would never have caught my eye other than to make me ask myself, "What is the title?" You can't read the text because of the graphics. Secondly, although I read no reviews or blurbs other than the Official OBC Review, the Official Review did nothing to make me want to read this book. I am not the least bit interested in dragon stories, so I would never have decided to read this book. After reading the first ten pages, it was clear that I would not be reading this. There wasn't anything about the book that I liked; this is just not my kind of story. What I disliked most was the cover for the reason stated above. The book was not professionally edited as evidenced by the errors in formatting and grammar. There is no indentation of paragraphs throughout the Kindle edition, which makes the text difficult to read. On page 3, a comma should be used rather than a period after the word "family" in the following: "'Tanzanite, cut it out. You're my only friend. You're...my family.' the princess had said..." On page 5, there is an unnecessary comma after the word "entranced" in the following sentence: "She was so entranced, that Tanzanite didn't notice the high-pitched whistling sound until it was too late." As a recommendation for improvement, I suggest that the author hire a professional editor to fix the formatting and grammatical errors.

I don't read YA books anymore. This book has an interesting blurb, and I like the fantasy aspects of the storyline. However, after reading the sample, I confirmed my decision not to read this book. I don't think I am the right audience. The sample is a little bit complicated, and I am not sure that younger readers will follow the plot easily. This book seems like it was professionally edited. I didn't notice any errors. There is an Official Onlinebookclub review, and it was helpful. Sadly, I wasn't convinced to read this book. I wouldn't change anything about the book. My favorite thing about this book is the illustrated cover. It s colorful and beautiful. The found family premise is brilliantly explored, and I am sure younger readers can learn a lot from it.

I absolutely love the beautiful cover that is artistically done. The title and genre grabbed my interest because I like books about dragons. The blurb was too short to influence my decision to read the book, and there were no editorial or customer reviews. The OnlineBookClub review is positive for the book but did not influence my decision. I enjoyed reading the first ten pages because the plot was easy to follow. I particularly like that each chapter is devoted to a particular character which helped the transition between the past and present. The first ten pages appear to have been edited by a professional editor as I did not see any errors. I have no recommendations for the author. I have downloaded the free copy of the book and will eventually read it because I am curious about how Eclipse's life turns out and if he finds his father.

Total ~ 38%
The Dragons of Chiroptera earned a score of 38%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 38% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
