The spiritual world has always been a fascinating realm that many have attempted to explore and find answers to; however, I believe this is the first time someone has actually offered irrefutable accounts by witnesses who have experienced the power unleashed by unseen forces. Dr. Joseph M. Feagan is a photographer, photojournalist, and physician by profession and has shared true incidents that will shake your core beliefs about the spiritual world. He offers unbiased, unfiltered, authentic conversations with shamans, santeros, espiritistas, etc., that truly altered my opinion about spirits. Do spirits really exist? If they do, is there a way to connect with them? Do they have the potential to help humanity in some way? What are the life-changing ramifications if the existence of unseen entities is proven? When I first picked up this book, I expected some spooky encounters and experiences. I’ll be honest; there were quite a few of those, but it was much more than that. It was an eye-opening journey through the world of spirits, and it made me wonder how this could significantly change our future if scientists were slightly open-minded to explore and find answers to what lies beyond our physical existence. One story that amazed me was about a masseur who works with spirits and has healed many women with fertility issues. Going by what she claims, she has helped twenty-two women to be able to bear a child; that is an extraordinary feat to achieve, and I can only imagine what this could mean if the science of traditional practices and healing techniques becomes more acceptable.

One story that was slightly difficult to condone was that of an espiritista who used the power of his saint for selfish gains. He made a deal with the spirit to heal his dying mother at the expense of the other patients in the hospital. It was incredibly unnerving to read about that experience, and it very aptly demonstrated the importance of ethical responsibility in people who possess this gift or power to bring this kind of consequence.

I think this book has plenty to offer to those open to exploring the world of spirits, the spiritual wisdom behind ancient traditions followed by several Indigenous people, and people following natural healing practices. The accounts shared by individuals from various backgrounds and beliefs make this book a compelling resource to bring about a change in perspective toward unseen entities. I appreciated the honesty and unbiased nature of the author’s narration, which doesn’t feel pushy and allows the reader to contemplate what this knowledge could mean for humanity.

On Spirits is a well-written book, and I only have one complaint: at times, it was confusing whether the author was sharing his story or if it was someone else’s personal experience. It wasn’t a huge issue and I figured it out later, so it didn’t impact my overall rating. I haven’t counted some grammatical errors in the people’s accounts, as I believe that was left unchanged to preserve the authenticity and the raw emotions displayed. I enjoyed this book and how it changed my perspective about the spirit world, so I rate it 5 out of 5 stars.

I think this book deserves to reach a broader audience, as it has the potential to create a wave of awareness about the spiritual realm. The wisdom of many ancient cultures points toward similar practices and rituals. Even religious texts like the Bible, Torah, and Quran have multiple descriptions of unseen entities. Could our ancestors have had special knowledge about these entities and kept it a well-hidden secret for a reason? What will be the repercussions of making it available to everyone? Can science explain the changes observed in shamanic water used during rituals? On Spirits will lead you to this introspective journey if you let it. I recommend this book to anyone interested in discovering the answers to the questions above.

I agree with you on many things, but, at the same time, I wonder how the scientists could go about in trying to prove the existence of spirits without relying on word-of-mouth evidence. Excellent job.

The way this book explores the spiritual realm and navigates through things that humans will always struggle with – with ease, might I add– makes it a perfect read for anyone interested in looking beyond the surface.

Your review has piqued my curiosity. I believe in God the Father, Jesus Christ and in angels and the Devil, but I’ve never known how to categorize spirits. I’d be curious to see how Dr. Feagan explains spirits in relation to religion. I’ll have to check this one out!
