Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a book that narrates the historical details of the events that took place during the struggles for Algeria’s independence. Ghoulem played a very crucial role in this struggle right from his medical college in Bordeaux. Ghoulem went to Morocco, where he enrolled in law school to gain legal authorization to organize the Algerian students. In Morocco, he built a sturdy branch of UGEMA. Find out the meaning and purpose of UGEMA and lots more when you read this book.
I found Ghoulem’s medical career intriguing and learned a lot of innovative approaches to treating patients. An example of a unique technique was how using a handkerchief could substitute for a stethoscope. They can apply this method if they find themselves without a stethoscope. Ghoulem led a medical team where he exhibited his leadership skills; he provided health care services where he made medical help available for some workers.
I discovered an attribute in the protagonist’s life that is worth emulating. He was a versatile medical doctor who engaged in several activities, which included involvement in political activities for the independence struggles. He worked as a veterinary doctor at some point, and he also headed many associations. I also want to commend his ability to maintain peace and resolve controversy at all costs. The love, courage, and fearlessness that the Algerians possessed for their motherland engrossed me. These attributes are worthy of emulation. Despite the challenges, ups, and downs accompanying the independent struggles, it did not discourage them. It was a fight they had proposed to embark on. Even if it would cost them their lives, I can not overemphasize their determination and perseverance.
This book is very detailed and explicit. The diagrammatic illustrations gave me an in-depth understanding and created a clearer picture of the characters, which made the story an interesting piece. The character of Ghoulem applies in all spheres of life. He possessed social, academic, and political intelligence. This book teaches leadership qualities such as integrity, honesty, generosity, wisdom, etc. I also learned how to examine the characteristics of fish worthy of consumption. I admire how courageous the author was, especially in the face of adversity.
I did not dislike the book. I loved every aspect of this book except that it contained a few minor errors, which did not distort my reading flow. Hence, I will give this book 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this book to medical practitioners, people aspiring to be leaders, people who love politics, and lovers of history.
