The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for The Blackest Blue
Because The Blackest Blue was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

The title is mighty intriguing, but the cover made me think it was for children. Then the blurb mentions that this is the start of a fantasy series. I am not fond of fantasy reads, so I would not have touched this book outside the program. That it starts a series added to my dislike factors. The sample did not make me change my mind, especially after I read the gory punishment for Kai. I did like the intricate illustrations that accompanied the chapters. I have no suggestions for the author, but the book is not for me. I noted errors in the use of commas. One was at 74% of the sample: By the time her sixteenth year rolled around, no one was surprised when she joined the ranks of Rem, a full year before fledglings were usually selected" did not need the second comma. The official OBC reviewer gave the book top marks, but the review did not move me to reconsider my decision.

Because I'm a part of this program, I sampled this book based on the editorial review. The book is a little creepy at first, but the editorial review gives me valuable insights about this book. The book is part of a series, which I seldom read because I prefer to read books in one setting rather than in a series. I read the sample, and I'm curious about the boy's chitchat about someone who was sent "up the hill" for punishment. Sy's character made me curious, but the OBC review is enough for me to know about the plot of the book. I don't see any typos. I also can't think of anything for improvement or that I dislike. The book has an OBC review, which is very helpful in giving an overview of the book. I will not be reading this book because of the reasons above.

Without this program, I would not have sampled this book. The cover alone would have turned me off. I’m also not a big science fiction reader, so the genre and blurb wouldn’t have piqued my interest. The title isn’t appealing for me either. The amount of positive customer ratings did give me pause a little, but the OBC one did not. I did not see any glaring errors while reading.
I like how the reader can feel the sense of fear within the characters’ conversations and actions as the teenage boys discuss Rem, their society’s goddess. The fear of being sent “up the hill”, due to speaking ill of her, makes me curious what that means. On the other hand, it’s unclear why eight-year-old Sy is following them. I know part of the reason is so the reader can hear the boys’ conversation, but it’s unclear what her role is within the group.
Due to not being invested in the story and the genre isn’t appealing to me, I do not plan on buying and reading this book.

Based on the official OBC review, other public reviews, and the genre, I decided to read this book. I found no errors in the first ten pages. Sy followed a group of boys and the priestesses of Goddess Rem on a journey. Four boys hauled a piece of equipment. I liked that the author presented the premise through Sy's musings. It made me curious to know more. I had no suggestions for improvement. Based on my reading experiences, I would love to read the whole book.

The storyline revolves around a lead female character, Syretia, and her quest to find the ultimate truth behind a goddess, Rem, whom everyone worships and whose rules the priestesses enforce on everyone. I liked the plot but wouldn't have read the book based on its genre, and the basic themes didn't entice me much. The thing I liked the most while sampling was the characterization. Syretia's character is portrayed as someone who is curious about Rem from the get-go. The author also introduces main plot points related to the Book of Rem and the fear and reverence for the Goddess in the community. I liked the directness of the narrative and that it didn't feel hurried. I was only able to notice a single error in the portion sampled. The sentence, "Sy half considered climbing up to hitch a ride down the bumpy path, but didn’t want to risk upsetting them and losing their permission to tag along." There shouldn't be a comma after 'path'. While I'll rate the book as professionally edited due to the absence of other major errors, I would still suggest rectifying the small error with a round of proofreading. I saw an official OBC review that helped understand the book better, but I wouldn't plan on reading the whole book based on the reviews or the sampling, as I'm not interested in the themes of fantasy, though I do like that the plot development depends on a wise female character. There's nothing I can suggest for improvement.

I would have been interested in reading this book outside the program because of the cover. The design is beautiful and detailed, from the girl to the sphere she is holding. However, I did not enjoy the sample. I didn't understand many things. Everything happens very fast, and there is no time to understand the dynamics of the place; is it a sect, a society, or a city? Therefore, I will not buy this book. Errors: none. I was fascinated by the illustrations; I felt like I was reading a fairy tale. I would have liked the dynamics of the place where Sy lives to be better described. OBC's official review helped me make up my mind.

The title "The Blackest Blue" and the cover that shows a girl sitting in front of a crystal ball do not convey the theme of the book. There are one hundred and forty-three Amazon customer ratings for the book, which is a very good number for me to decide to sample the book. The Amazon summary states that the book is about a girl living in a cult-like settlement. As I am interested in the overall theme of the book, I would have sampled the book even if not for the First Ten program. As I sampled through the book, I found the narration describing the protagonist Sy teaming up with her fellow students and priestesses to go up a hill. As I got interested in the overall story, I am going to read this book in full. I found the sample professionally edited. I didn't find grammatical or mechanical errors in the sample. What I liked most about the book is its enchanting story. I don't have any recommendations for the improvement of the book. Although I found one OBC review of the book, my decision to read the book in full is based on my own sampling.

I wouldn't have picked this book up based on the cover and title of this book, as the book looks specifically fit for young adults, and I'm not part of this group of people. But I must add that the book cover is hauntingly beautiful. As for sampling the book, I liked the writing style and the story. However, this book will not keep me glued till the end, and hence, I'm not going to read the rest of the book. There's nothing wrong with the book, and I'm sure that the targeted audience will love this book for its unique world with the Goddess Rem and the character of Sy.
There's nothing in particular that I disliked about the sample. The book seems professionally edited, as I didn't encounter any grammatical errors in the bit I read. I've no suggestions for improvement to offer. I didn't read the Amazon blurb, other editorial reviews, or customer reviews to make my decision to not read this book. The OBC review is well-written and will convince potential readers to consider this book.

I was so engrossed in the sample I didn’t notice it ended. Syretia actions and thoughts were extremely fascinating to witness. It was surprising to see how devoted she became to Rem to possibly try and hide her true feelings regarding Rem. I would not have picked up this book from the cover, genre, blurb, or reviews like OBC’s, since I normally skip sci-fi books. I might have found an error. Location 54, “ Usually, once morning lessons were done, it was all Sy could (do not) to go running out of the main compound to the lake or low trees, but these kids were content to be surrounded by the same buildings, same scenery, same…” - I am unsure what is wrong, but I am sure this sentence could be bettered. I extremely enjoyed the illustrations and the map provided at the beginning. I did not imagine that the priests would actually allow Kai’s death despite his stubbornness, especially since he was just a kid. I cannot get over the fact that he was left to kill himself in front of onlookers. I can see how this book appeals to me, since it includes adequate fantasy and sci-fi elements, as well as mysterious aspects. Indeed, well written. Nothing could be bettered except for the possible errors. Good luck with the sales of this book.

I wouldn't have read the sample of this book based on its title, cover, genre, blurb, and OBC review. I used to read sci-fi/fantasy, but right now, I only read adult romance. The OBC review didn't mention anything I find interesting. So maybe this book is just not for me. After reading the sample, I actually enjoyed it. The OBC review mentioned that the narration sounded monotonous, but I enjoyed reading the narration. The writing is beautiful to read. The vocabulary used is going to be a bit too advanced for children. I also loved the illustration at the start of the chapter. I can already see that Sy is going to be an interesting character. I'm very excited to continue reading. So, I'll buy the book to continue reading the rest of it. I also don't have anything to recommend, as I think it was already good. I also didn't notice any grammatical mistakes.

I love fantasy books so the title and cover of this book excited me. It had no blurb but the Amazon customer and editorial reviews complimented the intensity and plot of this book. Based on that, I would have read or sampled this book even if it was not part of the First Ten program. The first chapter does a good job of easing us into the fantasy world. Characters are described going about their daily lives as they prepare for a religious ceremony which serves to welcome newborns into the community. I found nothing to dislike in this sample and no errors either. The OBC review was full of praise for this book and after reading the sample I can see it was well deserved. I have decided to read the rest of this book.

Outside this program, I'd have sampled this book because the title sounds catchy and magical, and the art on the cover hints a mystery. I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy, so I'd have sampled this book based on the genre. However, the blurb, editorial reviews, and customer reviews didn't convince me to sample it when I read that the book is incomplete and needs a sequel. Moreover, the OBC review and the sample didn't influence me to buy and read it after learning that the narration is monotonous. The book is about Syretia as she began to question the truth around her. At age 8, her curiosity started as she went to the waste facility with other kids. They lived in a settlement where people worshipped Rem, a goddess. Death was imposed to those who doubted Rem's existence. I like the beautiful map illustration that helped me visualize the setting of the story. Sadly, I won't read further because I'm not interested in reading a book that's part of a series. It seems professionally edited, and I don't have suggestions for improvements.

I would have read this book without the first ten programs being the reason. This is because of the genre, the intriguing title, the cover, and the OnlineBookClub and customer reviews and praises of the book that I read. It has no blurb. I am very interested in reading this book. This is because of how captivating the first ten pages are. The storyline is intriguing and captivating. This book seems professionally edited, as I did not notice any grammatical or typographical errors while reading the first ten pages of the book. I like the title of the book. I do not see anything that needs to be improved. I read an OnlineBookClub official review. It convinced me of how interesting the book is.

I may not have read this book based on the cover page and title since I don't like sci-fi novels. I changed my mind about it, I love the way it starts. Indeed as a child I've had those moments when I've seen something that adults may have missed. The book does not have a blurb but the OBC review made me more interested. I did not find any errors and I believe it is professionally edited. I have no suggestions for improvement so far. I will buy and read this book.

The book's title and cover page discouraged me from reading this book. They both suggest this book is based on science fiction. Since i don't like the genre, I wouldn't have read it without sampling. There was nothing that appealed to me from the pages I sampled as I felt the plot drag. Sy's interaction with other characters didn't appeal to me. The editing was professionally done because I did not notice any grammatical errors. Moreover, I didn't notice anything that needs modification. Having read the OBC review and sampled the novel, I will not complete reading it because I am not a fan of sci-fi books.

I wouldn't have sampled this book had it not been for the program. The genre is not really something I'm aiming to read at the moment. In the sample, I like how the book suggests some interesting message about children being the one to see the truth among the adults. The prologue tells about an ordinary day where Sy is walking with a bunch of older kids as they speak ill of the goddess. This sounds like a good adventure book for young readers, but I feel like I'm way too old for this kind of story. I'm not going to read the book for this reason. The OBC review definitely helped with my decision. I disliked nothing, and I didn't see anything that needed improvement. The text is free of any errors, so I feel like the book has excellent editing.

I wasn't drawn to this book by its cover and title. Therefore, I wouldn't have sampled it without this program. However, I became very curious after reading the Amazon description. I believe the first ten pages are well written, and I will be completing this one. I want to know what Sy uncovers about the goddess Rem, how she uncovers it as a priestess, and how it'll affect the settlement. I think this is an interesting plot. What a scandal that will be. The OBC official review, editorial reviews, and customer reviews didn't influence my decision. My decision to complete this book was greatly influenced by the Amadon description and cemented by the first ten pages. The lack of an OBC blurb didn't influence me. I didn't see any errors, so I believe the first ten pages were professionally edited. I also like the genre.

I like this genre and the title of this book, but the cover did not appeal to me. Based on the description and the official OnlineBookClub review I read, I would not pick this book to read. I struggle to stay engaged in books that are about people stuck in a small village and can’t question authority. It has been done so many times. I read the sample pages and I saw no editing errors, so this book seems professionally edited. I like Sy a lot. She is an inquisitive person that questions everything. This book could be improved with a more attractive cover. The sample pages were entertaining when Sy gets hurt, but this story reminds me of a lot of others I have read. For this reason, I will not buy or finish reading this book.

After reading the plot of this story from the OBC official review, I would have sampled this book even if I was not in this program because it's intriguing. Sy is putting herself in harm's way with this mission to find out the true identity of Rem. In the book, I learned that Sy is the youngest fledgling priest that her village has ever had. She moved up the ranks and became a priestess at 16 years old and it seems that Rem has a likening to her. Rem even asked for her to host the ceremony that takes place as a new addition is being added to the village. I found nothing I disliked about this book or any errors. I am going to get this book and thoroughly read it from start to finish because I would love to see if Sy discovers the true identity of Rem.

I think I won't be adding The Blackest Blue to my list of books to read this month after reading a sample of it. This is due to the fact that I have never read a novel that features a female protagonist, and I'm hesitant to do so. Sci-fi fans will enjoy this novel. I therefore recommend it to lovers of science fiction and adventure. In the section I read, Sy, who appears to be the story's protagonist, is introduced at the beginning of the book. Some of the other kids her age were standing in the shadows, quietly watching the slow-moving elderly people as they went about their varied activities. On the OBC website, there is a fantastic official review of this book. I found the review to be enlightening and helpful as I considered whether or not to purchase and continue reading the entire book. This book received a perfect rating from the reviewer. This indicates that the book appears to be a great read. Since I found no errors in the few pages I read, the author of this book appears to have hired a skilled editor. When asked what I liked most about the portion I read, I would answer with confidence that it was the author's writing style. It was clear and interesting. I found nothing disturbing in the section I read. The genre, cover, reader, and editorial reviews, as well as customer and customer reviews, had no bearing on my decision to purchase and finish reading this book.

Reading the sample of this book, The Blackest Blue, was enjoyable. In addition, I relished reading its review because it was well-written and provided in-depth details regarding this book. The author of this book starts off by acknowledging some of the childhood experiences when we know that we have seen something profound and life-changing—a glimpse of the ultimate truth that is a crucial reality that even adults fail to notice. My decision on whether or not to purchase and read the entire book was influenced by the excellent review of this book on the OBC website. This book appears to have had great editing, as the sample or first ten pages I read show. I came to this conclusion since there were no errors in the first ten pages I read. The title and cover were both carefully chosen and attractive. This book doesn't, in my opinion, require any sort of improvement. I do not read sci-fi novels. I'm trying nonfiction books right now. This is the reason I won't buy the book and read it cover to cover. Sincerely, the genre had a significant influence on my choice, but the cover, editorial reviews, and the official review I read did not. Within the first ten pages of reading this book, the cover caught my attention as the first aspect I loved. It was very well designed. There was nothing about the first ten pages of this book that I disliked. After reading the sample, I believe I will recommend this book to those who like sci-fi and fantasy works.

I would still have sampled this book based on its title rather than its cover, genre, blurb, editorial reviews, or customer reviews if I had not been a participant in this program (the First Ten Program). This book's title, The Blackest Blue, prompted me to have a look inside. The author discusses the reality that adults are too terrified to see, name, or act upon it in the first few chapters of this book. He shares the same reality with Sy, one of the story's characters. I'm not going to buy and read the entire book after only reading the first ten pages. After reading the first ten pages, I decided against buying and finishing the book because I'm not currently interested in reading sci-fi or fantasy. The first ten pages I read did not include any errors. The image of the Tholus IV colony at the book's introduction was my favorite part of the section I read. I spent a long time just staring at it. Nothing about the section I read disappointed me. This book appears to have been edited with skill. I would recommend this book to those who enjoy science fiction. The OBC review of this book was helpful to me in deciding whether or not to read the entire thing.

The cover and title of this book are average. Usually I do not read science-fiction, but after reading the Amazon blurb I was intrigued. The first few pages were well edited. I really liked the line "She gives us just enough that we can't ask for more!" The official OBC review was positive. The customer reviews and comments were also positive. I actually thought the plot of this book was interesting and I would like to see how it ends. For this reason, I will definitely be reading the rest of this novel. I do not have any suggestions for the author.

I was not initially intrigued by the cover of “The Blackest Blue.” I assumed from the cover art this was a children’s or teen’s book. I was intrigued by the title, as it seemed catchy! The genre is fantasy and science fiction. I enjoy these genres and am interested in the combination. The blurb and OBC review were engaging and opened my eyes to the fantasy world in this book. I’m excited to read the sample!
I found no errors in the sample pages. I enjoyed the drawings at the beginning of the book and the start of the chapters. I felt transported into a fantasy world in the first chapter. I am excited to continue reading about Sy’s life. My recommendation for the author is to make the cover art engage with the target audience. The cover art is perfect for a teenage audience if that is the intended age group.

I would not have sampled this book based on the genre, OBC review, cover, title, customer reviews, and editorial reviews. There was not a blurb on the bookshelf page. I don’t usually read science-fiction or fantasy books, and this story about a goddess whose existence was in question didn’t seem to be for me. After reading the first ten pages, I will be finishing this book. I was pulled in by all the suspenseful discussion about being taken up the hill for speaking out against Rem. I want to know who exactly Rem is and if she’s really a goddess. The book did seem to be professionally edited. There wasn’t anything specific that needed improvement.

I rarely read sci-fi, and based on the title, cover, and blurb, I would not have sampled this book if I were not part of this program. I was not drawn to the cover, but it seemed to attract the OBC official reviewer’s attention. The first ten pages introduced the setting well, and I liked Sy immediately. She had a lot of spunk for an 8-year-old. That could be why the teens tolerated her trailing behind them. I hope she finds out if Rem is real. I will not buy this book, however, because I am not invested enough in the story. It appeared professionally edited; I did not notice any grammatical errors in the first ten pages, and I have no suggestions for improvement. Neither the featured OnlineBookClub review nor other editorial reviews or customer reviews influenced my decision.

The cover and title are eye-catching and in keeping with the story and the sci-fi genre. I think the target audience should be drawn to this book. In general, I'm not a fan of science fiction or fantasy. The blurb comments that the plot revolves around Sy's discovery, at the age of eight, that the goddess Rem is not all-powerful and may even be unreal. Most of the customer reviews are flattering. The official review of OnlineBookClub portrayed Sy as a well-developed female character that confronts danger to discover the truth about Rem. Based on these aspects, I am uninclined to try this book. The first ten pages focus on the doubt that Kai and others have regarding the goddess Rem and her supposed all-powerful trait. Allegedly, she provides everything the people need. These opening pages show that the population is obliged to believe in and worship Rem. Otherwise, they might be punished just like Han and Kai were. Despite being a little girl, Sy does not believe Rem is a goddess. She seems convinced after hearing the broken terminal herald a malfunction and calls for emergency assistance. The intrigue remains about what will happen with Kai after members of the temple of Rem take him away to punish him. What I read raised the expectation about what will occur with Sy since she seems to have discovered the truth about Rem. The editing looked remarkable, as I didn't see any details to comment on. As a whole, I did not see anything that I believed could be improved. What I read was entertaining but didn't completely capture me since I'm not a fan of the science fiction genre. In summary, I will not read the rest of the book.

If I had not been part of this group, I would not have read this book because I’m not generally interested in science fiction. The cover does appeal to me, and the OBC review made me more interested though. I do not plan to finish the book because it was a little too confusing for me. The terms of the terminal and other descriptions were convoluted. I think the book could be improved by making the description clearer and explaining the world a little better. I did like the suspense of what happened to Han and what it meant to be taken over the hill. I did not find any errors.

There seem to be a lot of covers done by the same artist. I don't particularly like this type of cartoonish cover, so I wouldn't have looked very closely at it had I stumbled across the book in a store. Similarly, nothing about the Official OBC Review tempted me to read it. I read no other reviews or blurbs. This type of sci-fi, with its young protagonist, doesn't interest me much. So, before reading the first several pages, I was certain I would not be reading it. After reading the first section, I decided not to continue, even though the book is very well written and free from errors. I assume it was professionally edited. The one thing I liked the most about the book was how the author equated the pain in Sy's hand with the fire inside her wanting to know more about Rem. There was nothing that I disliked about what I read, just the genre. I have no recommendations for improvement.

I am very picky about the fantasy genre. I usually avoid younger characters, so YA fantasy is not for me. I haven't changed my mind after reading the sample. Even though the synopsis is very interesting and written just right to keep readers' attention, I will not buy and read the book. I like the characters, and the writing is good too. The way the author described Estella and Sy is very descriptive and relatable. I didn't notice any errors, and I wouldn't change anything about the book. There is an informative Official OnlineBookClub review of this book and many favorable Amazon reviews.

If The Blackest Blue hadn't been the OnlineBookClub's book of the day, I would have skipped it due to the cover and the description on Amazon.com. I do not like reading dystopian books, which is the impression I got from the description. There are over one-hundred customer reviews at the time of this writing, but these reviews did not affect my decision to read the sample. I like how curious Sy is about Rem; given what she had seen and what she heard from the boys, her curiosity is understandable. There were no grammatical errors in the sample, and I cannot think of anything that needs improvement or that I disliked. An official OnlineBookClub review exists for this title, but I knew I wasn't going to finish this book even before I read this review.

This is not my usual type of book, but I would have sampled it based on the cover, title, blurb, and editorial review; they were intriguing enough to pique my curiosity. The sample did not disappoint. I was sucked in from the first page, and by the end of the prologue, I too had my suspicions about this so-called goddess. I thought the scene of Kai's death was particularly graphic, but it added to the intrigue. Obviously, there was real danger in questioning this deity, but did the punishment come from her or something else? I liked all of it and disliked nothing. I’m also glad to say that I didn’t notice any errors. This book gets a "yes" from me because I really want to know what Sy will uncover on her quest for the truth. The OBC review was very helpful.

Following my going over the book’s Amazon page and official OnlineBookClub review, I decided not to purchase the novel. I am not fascinated by the world-building aspect of the fantasy story. I am not intrigued by the religion that Sy and her people have and how this religion is practiced in her settlement. I am not interested in finding out if Sy would be successful in uncovering the truth behind the goddess Rem. Poring over its Amazon sample failed to change my mind. I would not purchase it because nothing in the text convinced me I would enjoy reading the rest of the story. The first ten pages contain the first ten pages of the prologue. My favorite part is when Sy said that devoting oneself to the goddess Rem is “repugnant.” I did not observe any errors in the text. I believe the book is professionally edited. I have nothing to suggest to the author.

I was unable to guess what I could find in this book after seeing its cover, title, or genre. Without the program called the first ten, I would not have sampled this book. I could not find any editorial reviews of this book. The customer reviews of this book were encouraging to me. The OBC official review was the one that motivated me to read the sample. After reading the first ten pages, I realized that the book was not professionally edited because I found some grammatical errors in the free sample. For example, the sentence, "The priestesses had been notified only yesterday that the ceremony would take place, and had spent the morning preparing the nursery for the new addition." This sentence could be as follows. "The priestesses had been notified only yesterday that the ceremony would take place and had spent the morning preparing the nursery for the new addition." In this sample, I liked the way Sy impressed the people surrounding her by being a quick-witted kid. From the sample, I learned that Sy was a fledgling priestess for four years. Sadly, I could not visualize the scenes clearly from the unexpected way of describing them, and I lost interest in reading due to it. I will not buy and read this book today. My suggestion to the author is to use shorter sentences and to use simple language. A round of professional editing would help this book a bit.

The Blackest Blue by Luna Wright is a story set in a dystopian world where our characters are living a warped reality, believing Rem to be their all-powerful goddess. I liked the visual illustrations of the dystopian world provided by the author alongside the chapters. I liked being aware of the map of this strange world. The scene where Sy encounters a strange phenomenon with her hands in the waste facility was intriguing and extremely suspenseful. The second scene where Kai is exiled is also very interesting, and I’m excited to know the mystery behind this all-knowing Rem. The title, cover page, and genre interested me in reading this book, and I'd have read it regardless of this program. After reading the first ten pages, yes, I’m going to read the whole book. I did not encounter any errors in the first ten pages. My favorite bit from the part I read was the illustrious writing style of the author. It was perfect for imagining the scene in my head as I read it. The OBC review influenced me to read this book.

Twenty-year-old Syretia is a bit skeptical about the existence of Rem, a goddess worshipped by the people of the Tholus IV settlement. The story follows Syretia's eventful journey as she is determined to solve the mystery of a goddess who strikes fear into the hearts of those who dare to deny her existence. Although the cover and the title caught my attention, I would not have read the book based on the genre and Amazon blurb. Normally, I do not read sci-fi/fantasy novels, so neither the OBC review nor the sample convinced me to buy the book. The story was told from the perspective of Syretia by using a clear, descriptive writing style. What I liked about the sample was that the first chapters were filled with suspense and mystery, and I also appreciated the author's choice to include black-and-white illustrations at the beginning of each chapter. I would suggest another round of editing, though, as I did not like that I encountered errors that disrupted the flow of the story. For example, it should be written "He spat and choked, clawing at his neck" instead of "He spat and choked, clawed at his neck." (local 215 of 414 • 49%) It should be written "marred by his assault" in the following sentence: "She could see that the side of the terminal was dented and marred from his assault." (location 110 of 414 • 21%) Despite the editing issues, the book has received many positive customer reviews and editorial reviews; therefore, fans of the genre should give it a try.

The book makes a decent first impression with it's attractive cover design, simple title, detailed description, and multiple customer and OBC reviews. Since I am not a fan of science fiction, I was reluctant to read the sample. That said, I loved the eye-catchy illustrations in the book. There were some minor grammatical errors, but nothing that would affect my reading experience (A glimpse at some ultimate truth, an important fact that even the adults—with their rigid rules and boxed-in ways of thinking—somehow miss {replace hyphens with comma) Unfortunately, since the genre is not of my liking, I will finish this book. I have no suggestions since had the genre been my cup of tea, I would have enjoyed reading the book.

The Blackest Blue by Luna Wright belongs to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre, which I love to read. The title and the cover page caught my attention. The blurb revealed that this was a story of a young girl who tried to unmask the false religious beliefs of her society while being a priest herself. The blurb left me with mixed feelings about the book since the core of the book seemed out of the area of my interest. The editorial reviews and the customer reviews spoke highly about the book. Based on the above facts, I would not have sampled this book if I had not been a part of this program.
Then I read the first few pages, which described a scene that lead the protagonist to have doubts about her religious beliefs. I was disappointed by the slow start of the book. It seemed to me as an unnecessary and lengthy description. So I decided not to continue reading after reading the first ten pages. But I liked the protagonist of this story being a girl, because I think a female protagonist is more suitable for this sort of a plot.
There were no errors in the first ten pages and I did not see any area that could be improved. I saw the official OBC review, which spoke highly about the book. But it was not influential enough to change my decision.

I will skip this book outside the program. The cover and title did not make much impact on me. Also, the description mentioned a godess and priestesses. I had an impression that it is a spritual or faith-based story which is not my usual read. Customer reviews are positive. Surprisingly, sampling changed my mind. It made me consider reading this book. I like that the story explores challengng the norm and the system. The worldbuilding is intriguing and complements the mystery. Likewise, the illustrations add to the visual experience. For improvement, I suggest a more visually impactful cover art. For editing issues, I did not notice any from the sampled pages. The official OnlineBookClub review has helpful insights.

If it wasn't for this program, I wouldn't sample this book based on its title, cover, genre, blurb, OnlineBookClub review, or other reviews simply because science-fiction is not my favorite genre. After sampling the book, I will not continue reading it because I felt like the plot was predictable. I've read other books about people living in "compounds" that break free, and this seemed like one of those books. My favorite part of what I read was the world-building. I loved how the author showed us Sy's compound and community as the story progressed, and it was never boring. By the end of the prologue, I felt I had a clear picture of this new world. The book seems well edited, and I can't think of any way to improve it.

Sy wants to uncover the truth about the goddess she was taught to fear. This goddess, Rem, is thought to be very powerful. I would read the book based on the cover, blurb, title, genre, the official OnlineBookClub review, and the customer reviews I saw. The book was professionally edited. After reading the sample, I decided not to read this book. I did not like how the book began. The pace was very slow and nothing interesting happened to keep me invested. I would recommend the author add something intriguing in the first few pages. I won't be reading this one because the sample was not exciting.

I would have sampled this book based on the combination of genres it encompasses. I enjoy science fiction, fantasy, and adventure stories. The cover is also intriguing and would have appealed to me. The shocking death that Kai suffered makes me wonder what was in the woods that made him inflict fatal wounds on himself. Syretia's experience in the thicket described bugs crawling on her, but when she was pulled back by the other children, nobody had seen them. I encountered no errors and believe that the book is professionally edited. Suggesting anything to improve the book is not needed, as I would not change anything. The OBC review did not influence my choice to keep reading. I didn't read anything online to alter my choice. I found the intrigue and Syretia's secret devotion to proving REM was not a goddess captivating. I am interested to see how Syretia moves forward with the new knowledge about the High Priestess Laila.

I really liked reading the first pages of this book. I’m going to continue reading because, according to the OBC review, it is sci-fi, and I am curious to know what happens to Sy. My favorite part of the first few pages were the drawings placed before the start of each new portion. The editorial and customer reviews that I saw were very good. The cover was very enticing with the creepy face, and, while the title is uninteresting, I know that it is just one book out of a series. I do believe that this has been professionally edited. There’s nothing I would change.

Although the book's title is intriguing, I had hoped for a more appealing cover. As a result, after reading the title and observing the cover, I have a questionable impression and may choose this book as a result. I read the blurb, customer reviews, and the Official OnlineBookClub review, but they did not influence my choice. My decision was affected by the editor's review, which informed me that the book is a dystopian mystique. Because I'm not in the mood to read science fiction right now, I won't be reading the book. I appreciated the way it was stated that Sy engages in imaginary snake combat while playing with coils. I found it to be something I could readily picture, therefore the scene portrayed appears quite real. There shouldn't have been so many characters presented at the beginning of the book in such a short amount of time; this is confusing and needs to be changed. I didn't find any errors or typos when reading the book, thus it appears that it was professionally edited.

I don't like the image of the girl on the book cover. From a distance she looks a bit like Chucky. That is why I would not pick this book up if I would see it in a bookstore. However, the customer reviews, blurb and OBC review sound very convincing and make me curious about the sample. The first ten pages are well edited. The writing style seems to be aimed at young adults. I liked the names that appeared in the book: Sy, Elicia and Rem, for example. The storyline was not able to entirely grasp my attention. I tried to imagine this fantasy world, but I failed to make a mental image. That is why I will not buy this book. I have no suggestions for improvement.

The first thing that I noticed about this book was the beauty of its title. Secondly, I noticed how nice the cover looks. A book that has a nice appearance definitely has a high chance of being pleasant on the inside too. I also enjoyed checking the blurb, OBC review, and Amazon reviews. All of them were positive. I loved the illustrations. I also loved the opening of the book. It is thought-provoking. The writing is filled with powerful images and captivating details. Sy hangs out with a group of four boys when she learns the horrible thing that happened to Han because he dared to speak ill of Rem. I am curious to find out how Rem deals with her rebellious thoughts. I loved everything in this book. There is nothing I would change. Because of that, I am eager to keep reading it. There are no editing errors, so the book is professionally edited.

The cover of this book is quite appealing and there are a lot of positive customer reviews of this book. I would read it based on the cover, blurb, title, genre, customer reviews, and the official OnlineBookClub review. The sample was professionally edited and needs no improvements. I liked the suspense that the author created around the goddess Rem. Who is she and why is she so powerful? Sy is on a journey to discover the truth about Rem. I will be reading this book because the sample was intriguing.

I downloaded a free sample from Amazon and was able to read the first ten pages of this book, The Blackest Blue. On the OBC website, there was an official review of this book, which I also read. The review provided a thorough summary of the subject of this book. This book is a fictional work. The story of a teenager named Sy, who was eight years old, is told in the first few pages of this book. The author claims that Sy experienced those youthful moments, like everyone else, when she realized she had seen something profound and life-changing. I'm a voracious reader who adores literature. Consequently, I'll include this book in my list of all-time favorites. I'll buy it and read it through later. The first ten pages of this book I read had no grammatical or spelling problems. This book appears to have been edited by a certified professional. Additionally, the cover was attractive and well-designed. The plot flow was the aspect of this book that I loved the most in the first few pages that I read. The narrative flowed, which made it intriguing. In the first ten pages I read, there was not a single element of this book that I didn't appreciate. This book appears to have undergone thorough editing and writing. Therefore, it doesn't need to be improved in any way. I would recommend it to anyone interested in reading action and sci-fi novels because it seems like a fascinating book.

'The Blackest Blue' is written by Luna Wright. In the settlement of Tholus IV, the goddess, Rem, was the Supreme being. She controlled everything. Nobody was allowed to question her. When Sy was eight years old, she came to a realization. Then, Han had been taken up the hill for questioning the goddess. This did not go well with Kai. He dissented. Sy witnessed his end. Since then, she knew that Rem was not a goddess at all. Now that she is twenty, she is on a path to be a priestess and know the truth once and for all. I like how the chapters start with a quote from Plato's 'Allegory of the Cave.' I like the lucid writing style as well. The OBC review was great. In fact, I had decided to read the book after going through the detailed OBC review. The cover, title, genre, blurb, editorial reviews, and customer review are all enticing. The editing is also good. Nothing needs improvement. I will read this book as I want to know Sy's story.

I read the first ten pages of this book, The Blackest Blue, after downloading a sample. It is a sci-fi and fantasy novel. Sy is the name of the character we’re introduced to at the beginning of this book. The author continues by narrating that the day was like any other, with Sy tagging along behind some of the older kids in the compound as they made their way down to the waste facility. I don’t read sci-fi novels. This explains why I won’t purchase and read the entire book. I’ll just recommend it to readers who appreciate sci-fi books. The author’s writing style was the element that I appreciated the most in the first ten pages that I sampled. There was no element that I didn’t appreciate in the first few pages that I read. There were no errors in the first ten pages that I read. This book seems to have been exceptionally edited. There is an official review of this book on the OBC website. The review was insightful. My decision not to purchase and finish reading this book was not a result of its cover or the official review. As mentioned above, it was because of the book’s category. This book, in my opinion, seems fine the way it is and shouldn’t be improved in any way.

I would skip this book, whether I was part of this program or not. I do not like the genre, sci-fi has never been my cup of tea. The cover looks more like someone who is into fortune-telling, I could not discover how the name relates to the story in the first ten pages, it could be that the blackest of blue is sometimes misleading in colour like these people are misled by their so-called God. I would like to know how Sy will expose Rem. I liked the pace of the book though and the twist so early in the story seeing as Sy realized that rem is not a God she still dedicated herself to becoming a priestess. She has a lot of self-control doing that under false pretences and getting away with it for so long. I found nothing I disliked in this book. I found no spelling or grammar errors and have no suggestions for the author. No other review, OBC or otherwise, or blurbs influenced my decision. This was solely based on the first ten pages of this book.

The Blackest Blue by Luna Wright sounds like an intriguing novel. In the book’s prologue, which I read in the first ten pages, it is titled "Up the Hill." In this section, the narrator starts by saying that there are moments in childhood where, young as you may be, you know you have witnessed something profound and world-altering. The aspect that I liked the most in the first ten pages that I read was the book’s cover. It was appealing. There was no aspect that I didn’t like in the first ten pages that I read. This book seems to have been professionally edited, as I didn’t find any flaws in it. I’m not a fan of sci-fi novels. I’ll therefore not buy and finish reading this one. I’ll recommend it to those who like fiction stories. On the OnlineBookClub website, there is an insightful review. My decision not to buy and finish reading this book was because of its genre. The official review and the cover didn’t affect my decision. This book seems to be OK and doesn’t need any kind of improvement.

"The Blackest Blue" by Luna Wright is a sci-fi book that illustrates a woman's quest to escape from her reality. I liked the art design of the book cover and found it suggestive of its catchy title because of its coloring. I sampled this book because of its intriguing blurb, positive editorial and customer reviews, and excellent Official OnlineBookClub review. The book seems exceptionally well edited since I discovered no single error while reading the sample. I would not improve anything on the book because I enjoyed the mixture of science fiction and fantasy and liked that Luna Wright focused on Sy's inner thoughts and emotions. However, I disliked the monotonous descriptions of the actions of Rem's servants. Nevertheless, I will not buy and read the whole book because I am not interested in stories about followers of a goddess and rituals.

I have no intention of reading the book regardless of whether or not I am a part of the program. The plot does not interested me, despite the fact that I enjoy fantasy. I'm not a fan of stories that center around priestesses.
After reading the first ten pages, I decided against purchasing and reading the book because the beginning did not engage me as much as I had hoped.
I found mistakes in the book, see the following as an example: "she mumbled, words thick with sleep."
Should be: "(S)he mumbled, words thick with sleep." with a capital S.
Although I had no trouble getting through the book, I didn't find much else to enjoy about it.
Sy, the protagonist, aspires to become a priestess of Rem and has big plans for her future.
One thing I didn't like was how the first ten pages of the book dragged on without doing anything to hook me.
The plot is unexpected and makes the reader think, as I discovered after reading the OBC review, but after reading the first ten pages, I just didn't find the wow factor and won't be reading the book.

I love the title, though the cover makes me think of sci-fi, and I'm not much of a sci-fi fan. The blurb is confusing. It has too many characters with strange names and seems to start with no introduction. Despite the mostly high ratings, I would not have bought the book based on my first impressions.
The first ten pages didn't change my mind. The dedication is adorable and funny. They are intriguing (what does being "taken up the hill" mean?), and I like the cultish atmosphere surrounding Rem. I've always been interested in cults. There's nothing I particularly disliked, and I didn't find editing mistakes. Even so, the plot is too futuristic for my liking—for example, the scene with the terminals. The official OBC review didn't change my mind because this is a matter of personal taste. My main suggestion is to make the blurb clearer.

I was fascinated by this book after reading the official OBC review. I had so many questions that could only be answered by reading the book. I immediately resolved that I would read it later. I'm even more intrigued now that I've read the sample. The burst was both exciting and mysterious. I enjoyed the author's comprehensive descriptions throughout the book. That filled up the blanks in my mind and left little space for speculation. I adore it when authors do this, and Luna Wright did it flawlessly. The only thing I didn't like was the lack of a table of contents page. I would have liked to know how long the book was and whether the chapters have titles. That way, at the very least, I'd know what to expect. Italics were used for the first paragraph of Chapter One. I'm not sure if that was intentional, but it seemed like that was the only mistake present. I'd like to read the remainder of this book and the entire series at some point.

With such an interesting blurb and high customer reviews, I would have tried this book outside of the program. After sampling, I would buy to continue this book. I liked how clear descriptions the author uses to describe the mysterious goddess of Rem and the community that follows her. There was also an instant mystery surrounding the "terminals" and the real power behind the scenes that made me want to keep reading and find out what happens. I had nothing negative to mention and found no errors in what I read. The OBC review helped me decide to continue reading the book.

I would not have picked this book up based on the cover alone because it looks like it may be a children’s book. The cover art looks like a child in a cartoon or fantasy story. The title doesn’t really tell me what the book it about. The onlinebookclub.org review that I read was very informative and described it as a book science fiction or fantasy fans would enjoy reading. I don’t typically like science fiction or fantasy books, so the review didn’t increase my interest in reading this book. I didn’t read any additional customer reviews or blurbs. The first ten pages describe as girl who is eight years old. Her nickname is Sy. She lives in a settlement where there are priestesses. She tags along with some older boys and listens to their conversations. By her listening in on what they are saying, we learn more about the settlement and the people in it. I didn’t see any errors in the first ten pages, so I believe it was professionally edited. I also didn’t see any area that the author could improve upon. Since I am not a fan of this genre, I will not finish reading this book. However, I think it would appeal to fans of science fiction or fantasy novels.

The orb on this book's cover and the title grabbed my attention because I enjoy reading sci-fi/fantasy books. I like to make my decisions based on the sample of the book and not on the blurb, customer reviews, editorial reviews, or the OnlineBookClub review. Therefore, they do not influence my decisions. I like the illustrations that set the scene for each chapter. I am curious about what happened to Han and Kai after they were taken up the hill and Sy's curiosity about the truth of the goddess Rem. Unfortunately, the pace of the first ten pages was too slow for my taste, and I quickly became bored. Besides increasing the plot's pace, I have no recommendations for the author. The first ten pages appear professionally edited, as I saw no errors. I will not finish reading this free book because I found the first ten pages boring.

Total ~ 40%
The Blackest Blue earned a score of 40%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 40% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
