The First Ten Focus Group Feedback for A World Diverse
Because A World Diverse was Book of the Day, some of our most trusted members have carefully looked over the cover, the description, and other aspects of this book as a part of purchase-intent focus group. We then asked each participant in the focus group if they planned to buy and read the book, and why they planned to buy and read the book or not. Their answer to that question and reasons are displayed below. We call this awesome feature The First Ten Focus Group.
Keep in mind, the responses from the members are not reviews. This is purchase-intent focus group which means the participants are people who have NOT yet bought or read your book. A purchase-intent focus group is an important and extremely useful marketing tool for any product, not just books. For other products, you might walk on the street and show people an item in a package and poll them about whether they would buy if or $X or not. These kind of focus groups are one of the ways big marketing companies find the ideal price points for products and test the effectiveness of different packaging. The focus group can help you identify your market so you how to target ads of your book, and it can (but may not) provide you new useful info about your "packaging" (e.g. your book cover, your book synopsis on Amazon, etc.). The point of the focus group comments is to give you information from people who have not bought or read your book about why they plan to buy your book which will help you in marketing the book. These are not reviews or critiques of your book because they are not from people have read the book. This is a marketing tool, not reviews. The trick of book marketing and book advertising is that you have to convince people who have not read your book yet that your book is worth buying and reading. For marketing, it doesn't matter much if people love your book after reading it if you cannot convince potential buyers before they read it that they will love it.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable. This is because we only poll about 20 or so readers, and all readers have to say "no" to almost all books. Over a million books are published each year. Even a very active reader cannot come close to even reading 1% of books out there.
This is also why publishing books is such a tough industry.

The cover is eye-catching and intriguing, but I probably wouldn't have sampled this one without the programme as I'm not looking for new poetry at the moment. I also won't buy and read it today as I could not see any of the poems in the sample. I can see from the Contents that the poems have themes like faith and friendship; these are good topics, of course, but reading about them isn't a huge priority at the moment. This book appears professionally edited in that I did not notice any errors in the contents page, which was all I could see. As there was not much to go on, I will say that I liked the cover best - the image of the paths that overlap and then head away from one another is thought-provoking. The sample would be improved if one or two poems were included. The OBC review was helpful as it did include some examples of the poems! That enabled me to see that the poetry seems to be more about ideas than images. I prefer poems with images, so that was hlepful in my decision.

Based on the cover and sample, I think I wouldn’t have sampled the book. Truthfully, I thought it would a nonfiction novel- my least favourite genre-instead of a poetry book. However, both aspects are actually appealing, especially the cover which I find stylish and creative. As for the first few pages, I don’t think I can decide whether to read it because the sample only consists of the table contents and dedication. However, the review was quite compelling and detailed in describing what the whole book is about. The writing style is full of emotions based on the quoted lines from the review, and seeing it as personal experiences of the author made it somehow interesting. But, I am not really a fan of poetry. Thus, I will not be buying the book. I believe this would be a good read for people who like poems. Honestly, I can’t say if there were any errors, but I believe the official OBC reviewer said there were none.

The overall appearance of the book is quite eye-catching. When I read through the official OBC review, I felt that I wouldn't be able to appreciate the book since I'm not very fond of reading poetry. However, I became interested when the reviewer mentioned that the poems were very easy to understand and when they provided some lines from the book. When I finished sampling the pages though, I was disappointed that I could only come up to the "Dedication" page due to the short overall word count, so I decided not to buy the book due to the conflict in my personal preference.

I would not have sampled this book based on the genre, blurb, OBC review, cover, and title. Poetry about the author’s time in the Canadian Air Force did not seem like something I would be interested in. After reading the sample, I won’t be finishing this book. All the sample contained was the table of contents. It didn’t even have the complete dedication. While I understand that this is a short book, (only 47 pages according to Amazon) it is difficult to judge a book without seeing any of the content. Because of that and the fact that the OBC review didn’t convince me to read it, I won’t be purchasing the book. I could not say whether it was professionally edited or not because of the lack of content in the sample.

The cover photo would have drawn my attention, but once I realized it was a book of poems I lost interest. I don't usually enjoy poetry. Without the first ten program, I would not have wanted to sample it. There was no way to read the first ten pages, because the only thing available as a sample was the Contents and Dedication. The names of the poems were not enough to convince me to want to purchase and read the book. I was also not able to evaluate the professionalism of the editing. The OnlineBookClub review summarized it as a good fit for poetry enthusiasts. It is possible that I might have changed my mind if I could have actually read at least one of the poems. I don't feel comfortable making a purchase without knowing what I'm getting. I'll pass on this one.

I really love the cover picture but the text formatting could have been better. The blurb seems okay, but I couldn't find any amazon reviews. The OBC review was pleasing. The sample wouldn't load beyond the dedication page, so I can't really speak for the writing or content of the book. I like that the author's inspiration to write poems came after the death of his wife. No doubt, they'd be filled with emotions. There isn't anything to dislike. But a poetry book about the author's career in Air Force is not my cup of tea, so I won't be reading this book.

I'll be honest here. There is a review for this but I didn't read it. I just really liked the cover and the title, so I picked this up. It helps that there are no mistakes that I can pick out in the book. The poetry is lush yet straightforward, with the strong "I believe" that starts each stanza of the poem bearing that name in particular holding my attention. I'm definitely going to check out the rest of this because from what I've read, it sounds poignant and cathartic.

Neither this book’s title nor description hooked me. I’m not much for poetry collections. Before sampling, I wasn’t interested in reading. Upon trying to sample, I was unable to see past the introductory content—Table of Contents and front matter. This cemented my decision not to read. I may have changed my mind if I saw the actual content of the book, but I was unable. Thus, I will not be reading. I didn’t see an OnlineBookClub.org review, but one wouldn’t have changed my mind.

I wouldn't have chosen this book because I don't usually read poetry, but I did see that it had a positive review. I didn't find any grammatical errors in the sample, but I also saw that there weren't any poems included in the sample. Because I couldn't read any of the author's work, I won't finish the book.

I would not have picked up this book without the First Ten program because I am not a huge fan of poetry. I really like the title and cover. I appreciated that the Amazon blurb was short. The first few pages seem well-edited. I was surprised to see that the theme of this book is not melancholy. The various OBC reviews I read mention that this book is actually full of hope and lessons. Personally, poetry is not my thing and I think I would have liked these poems better if they were not trying to teach something. For these reasons, I will not be reading the rest. The OBC reviews did not change my mind.

I may have sampled this book outside the program because I like the cover art; it aptly describes the book's title. On perusing its contents, I'm a tad disappointed. There was nothing to read in the sample except the table of contents and the "Dedication" subheading. They didn't so much as provide the author's words to whom the book was even dedicated. When I see samples like these, sorry to say, I consider the author selfish because of the unwillingness to provide a tangible enough sneak peek to help readers decide on whether or not to purchase the book. Thus, I personally wouldn't bother to read it based on that unwillingness. There was no way to determine if the book was well edited or had areas for improvement. I had been interested in seeing what the book had to offer after reading the OBC review, but the sample tells me it has nothing, and I'm unwilling to stake my funds in purchasing it to be sure whether that's true or not.

From the cover, blurb, and review of this book, I wouldn’t have read it. I'm not someone who usually reads poetry and this one wasn't even with a topic that interests me. After reading the first ten pages I didn’t change my mind and therefore will not be buying and reading the rest of this book. From the short sample I read, I appreciated the topics on which this book was based. By outlining that the poems were focused around faith, friendship, and feelings, the author is very clear on content. That being said, I have very little interest in poetry and therefore don't intend on reading it. I didn’t see anything specific that I would have wanted to change within the sample that I read, but it did seem well written and edited. The official review did not affect my decision at all.

Based on the genre and title, I wouldn't have chosen to sample this book, because I feel I don't 'get' poetry. However, from the official OnlineBookClub review for this collection, I learned that this is one of those collections that you'll easily understand. Due to the book's small size, the Amazon sample was really short and went only up to the dedication page. The author wrote this book after his wife passed away - that is the extent of my knowledge. I will thus not be reading this book. The sample contained no grammatical errors.

If I had not read the sample, I would not have read the book as I do not think this is my genre. After reading the sample, I have not changed my mind. The sample was so short there was none of the actual content to read. However, just from the table of contents, some titles look very interesting, like "Solitude and loneliness" and "The healing power of friends." So far, the formatting was correct and but I do not know if the actual content is professionally edited because the sample did not get to it. I did not read an official review but that did not affect my decision.

Poetry isn't something I really go looking for. I would not have sampled this for that reason, and the sample, given that it didn't include any actual content (just the contents and (some of the?) dedication), would have prevented me from looking any further.
I can't speak to the contents, but the cover was nice (Photoshop? If so, it's very well done).
I won't be reading this due to the fact that I'm not actively looking for poetry, but the lack of a sample would have stopped me regardless.
I believe there was a review for this book, but I did not read it, and it didn't have any impact on my opinion.

The cover reminded me of Robert Frost's poem The Road Not Taken, but I wouldn't have chosen this book without the first ten program mainly because I didn't know what to expect considering the lack of editorial and customer reviews. Unfortunately, the sample did not include any poem, so I couldn't make up my mind whether or not to read the book. What made me decide not to read the book was the official OBC review that included a few lines from Edmond's poetry. Although I appreciate his optimistic tone and positive message, I think the poems are too childish for my taste. I don't know about the editing errors either since the sample included only the table of contents with the three main topics and the titles of the poems.

I am not a fan of poetry, so I would not have chosen to sample this book. I love the cover and the title. The Amazon sample pages did not show any of the actual poems in the book, so I am unable to comment on the actual poetry, but based on the the official OnlineBookClub review, it seems that it is uplifting, motivating and positive, which I think are wonderful attributes for poetry. I was also unable to establish if the book was professionally edited or not. I don’t think there is anything that requires improvement other than making more pages available to sample on Amazon. I will not be adding this book to my reading list.

If I had not actually sampled the first ten pages as part of this program, I would not have chosen to read or sample this book based on the cover page and genre because I don't usually enjoy drama and poetry. From what I read in the Official OBC review, I think this book is interesting. Therefore, I am going to buy and read the whole book.
There were no pages to sample, unfortunately. The sample only contained table of contents. Hence, I cannot give a detailed First Ten Review of this book. What I know about the book is that it's a creative poetry written by the author after his wife's death. The book has an Official OnlineBookClub review, which provides detailed overview of the book.

I enjoy poetry, but religious writing is not my thing. The cover art and title are eye-catching. The official review makes the writing sound inspiring. The sample does not include any of the poems and stops after the table of contents, so I was unable to sample any of it. I won't be buying this one, as I am not a fan of religious poetry.

The book cover was interesting and made me wonder what was at the end of the two wooden paths. The title was OK. I was not sure if I wanted to read a book of poems. The Amazon blurb described the book as prose and poetry of the author’s personal experience in the Royal Canadian Air Force and that he was inspired to write this book after his wife died of Parkinson's disease complications. The sample only showed the table of contents with three main sections of faith, friendship, and feelings. I best liked the poem’s title of “The healing power of friendship.” This gave a clue about the positive tone of the poems. The book seems to be edited well, as I did not notice any errors. The OBC review described the poems as being filled with love and optimism. I do not want to read this book because I do not normally like to read poetry and the book is also very short. I would have rather read about the author’s life (like a memoir).

Upon first glance of this book, the cover photo is breathtakingly beautiful and definitely grabs my attention. The title is intriguing as well. The OBC review I had read mentions that this is a short book (40 pages) with various poems about life, love, and happiness. The author wrote these poems shortly after his wife died.
There was nothing to read in the sample, but the table of contents showed that there are 20 poems inside this book. I liked the cover art most of all, but I wish the author would have atleast let us read one of his poems as part of the sample!
I will likely not read this book, because I am not big into poetry. I am simply not the right audience.

I probably would have read A World Diverse even if it had not been a part of the First Ten program. The Book of the Day review was positive and left me interested in it. The book seemed like it was professionally edited, and I did not notice any errors while reading. It was inspiring that the author took the tragedy of his wife's death and channeled it to create this book. I didn't like that the sample contained very little textual content; this made it difficult to get a feel for the book. As a result of this, I will not buy the book today.

I don't like poetry, so I would not have read the sample without The First Ten, and that's why I will not be buying the book. Unfortunately, the sample did not include any actual content, so I don't know if there is anything that can be improved. However, I do like that, as mentioned in the official review, while the author was inspired to write after his wife's death, his poems are not sad. I don't know if there are any editing mistakes, although the official review said that it doesn't have any.

The cover and the title are not indicative of the theme of the book. There are no Amazon customer reviews. The Amazon summary gives a clear description of the content of the book. As I am not interested in poetry books, I would have skipped sampling the book if not for the First Ten program. As I sampled through the book, I didn't find any content except for the dedication page, so I am not able to say anything about the First Ten pages of the book. As I am not interested in poetry books, I am not going to read this book in full. I could not comment on the editing or grammatical and mechanical errors, as I didn't find any content to sample. I didn't like anything specifically about the book. I could not suggest anything that can be improved. Although I found one OBC review on the book, my decision to not to read the book in full is based on my own sampling.

I have come across a positive review of this book, and it has piqued my interest. There are a few errors present. In the "Acknowledgements" page, there is a missing space in between the words "...in my endeavour.( )A friend...". The author seems to have written poems about many various topics; one that caught my eye was regarding his faith in God in the poem "I Believe", where he strongly believes in the concept of heaven, that by having faith, everyone will be able to "achieve [their] just reward/which God in heaven prepared for us". I appreciate that the author is able to convey such a depth of emotion through poetry. I would suggest that the book be edited again to get rid of these minor errors. However, I will not be buying the book today, as I am currently not in the market for poetry.

Had I not sampled the book, I would not have read it. I usually read romance books and do not normally read poetry. However, the cover (with the image of two roads) caught my attention. Further, the book had a perfect 4/4 OBC review, which gave me a good impression. Having read the sample, the index caught my attention. I was disappointed by the lack of chapter numbers. However, the fact that the book was divided into three parts made it seem well structured. The sample did not include much of the actual content of the book, so I will not be able to comment on the editing or on the language. Since I do not read the genre usually, I will not be buying the book today.

The cover art is strikingly simplistic, yet inviting in its wanderlust duality. After a lengthy career in the RCAF, and after watching his wife battle Parkinson's disease, I have no doubt that Edmond's life has given him plenty to reflect upon. I could only find stray editorial reviews for the paperback version across the web, but their content corresponds with the positive marks given by OnlineBookClub.org reviewers as well, namely the use of straightforward language and earnestly heartfelt content. While somewhat didactic in nature, these poems are said to be solidly constructed and enjoyed by many, so I am anxious to decide for myself. I will happily continue reading this poetic compendium of thoughts and gladly leave an Amazon review.

Had I not sampled this book through the First Ten program, I may not have picked it up because the title and cover do not appeal to me. I do intend to read the whole book as it is free for review through the Online Book Club, and I do like poetry. Reading the first ten pages changed my first impressions of the book, the poetry is light and enjoyable. Based on what I read, the book seems to be professionally edited. I did not see any errors. What I liked most was that the book seems to be a book of poetry based on friendship, feelings, and faith. I know that readers who enjoy poetry based on these themes will likely enjoy this book. As far as improvement, I noticed that the reading sample on Amazon only goes to the dedication page. Readers would be more likely to buy if they could sample more of it. I did read the Official Online Book Club Review and found it informative.

If I had not been a member of this program, it is unlikely that the cover, title, or author would have led me to pick up this book. Both the cover and the title give it a distinctly philosophical look and feel. Unfortunately, that is not one of the genres I enjoy reading. The author is unknown to me, so that did not affect my decision. The blurb is concise and does not expound on the book at all. Thus it failed to draw my interest. There were no customer reviews on Amazon, not even from this program. The sample had no chance of affecting my decision, as it showed only the table of contents and a dedication to the author's wife, nothing more. Thus, I had to judge based on the review on this site, which reflected the book in an excellent light. However, it also gave the impression that it is a very emotional book. I am a very sensitive person and won't even attend movies with sad endings. Given that, and the book's nature, I chose not to read it.

'A World Diverse' is a book written by David Edmond. The title, cover, OBC review, and Amazon review did a good job at convincing me to give this book a try.
The sample of the book leads me to believe that it is an anthology of poems. The sample only contained the table of contents. Hence, I am unable to discuss about the themes. I like the title. I did not find any error. I think that it is professionally edited. I will give this book a try as I like reading books of this genre.

The cover is fitting for a poetry volume. The review was convincing and it made me want to check some of the poems. Because the sample only shows the Table of Contents, I made an opinion based on that and on the review. I like that they present a positive way of thinking, even though the author lost his wife. However, I'm not interested in reading poems about religion. Also, I may be old-fashioned, but I still love poetry the way it was. I can't appreciate the poetry from these days as I do with old poetry. It's something in the words that is just not deep enough for me. Because of these reasons, I'm not going to buy this book. The review doesn't mention any grammar errors.

Based on the title, the cover, the blurb, and the one-page sample, I could only tell that this was a book of poems. For that reason alone, I would probably buy it because I am a poetry addict. Fortunately, the OBC review went into more detail, even quoting a few sample poems. That did the job. Now I know that this is the type of poetry I like best; the poems are about people, the world, life, and deep feelings. I definitely want to read "A World Diverse." I can't comment on the contents because the sample was so small.

Before sampling this book, I would not have picked it up. The OBC review makes it sound enticing, but I don't tend to enjoy poetry, and I am not religious. The only thing available in the free preview was the table of contents, which was already briefly outlined in the OBC review. Given that the first section is dedicated to faith, and there is no actual poetry to potentially change my mind, I do not plan to read this book. I didn't see any errors in the pages I could see.

I like that the author dedicates this book to his wife who was lost to Parkinson’s disease I like that the cover image consists of two paths and a choice we can make. The reviewer had many kind things to say about the author’s work, particularly his faith in God, which is inspiring. I don’t read poetry so I’ll probably pass on this book, but it appears to be professional in appearance/editing and the topics are nice. I don’t really have any suggestions for improvement and I wouldn’t have found this book outside of the program.

I love the cover picture. It is beautiful and so interesting. The title, A World Diverse, is also intriguing. A World Diverse is an uplifting poetry book about feelings, friendship and faith. The sample gave me only a brief look at the book. The author, David Edmond, said he felt compelled to put his feelings into writing after the death of his wife. The official review rated the book highly and gave me a glimpse at the poems enclosed. I found no grammatical or spelling errors and believe that this book has been professionally edited. I like poetry that makes me feel emotionally. I would like to finish this one.

Poetry books are a mixed bag for me. They are an unfiltered window to the soul of the writer, but often the reader doesn’t understand what is being conveyed. A man whose wife died after a battle with Parkinson’s disease wrote this book of poems. I liked the book cover - it was simple and serene. I did not notice any grammatical errors in the sample. It was frustrating not having one poem to review. Thankfully, there was an excellent official OnlineBookClub review that shared that the poems were easy to understand. At forty-seven pages, it is not a huge investment, so I plan to read the book. I like that the poems are based on faith, friendships, and feelings. I would not have read the blurb or sampled this book if I had not been a part of this program.

I really enjoyed the cover of this book, but I don’t typically read poetry. There was no sample to read beyond the table of contents and dedication because the book is only 40 pages total. Since it received a 4 out of 4 from OBC it seems that it was considered well-edited by the reviewer. The book contains a message of hope and faith, which is very appealing. Still, I don’t really enjoy reading poetry so I will not buy the book.

I normally wouldn't have picked this book up as I have no interest in poetry. Having looked at the sample I will not be continuing with this book as I don't really like poetry and the sample didn't allow you to actually see any of the poems other than the table of contents. The sample is simply the table of contents of a small book of several poems about faith and friendship. Those who like poetry might like this book, but I'm not a big fan of the genre and the sample didn't allow me to see anything that would change my mind. I read the OBC review of the book and it sounds like something that would appeal to fans of poetry, but not me.

I really like the cover of this book and the title. The photo on the cover caught my attention. I would have picked this book up based on the cover alone. I haven't read a review of this book yet. The book appears to be a collection of poetry judging by the table of contents. I didn't see any errors in the amazon sample provided so I believe the book was professionally edited. However, the sample provided was extremely short. It covered the table of contents and dedication page, but did not include a poem. Based on what was provided, I'm not sure whether I would like to finish reading the book or not. Judging only by the sample provided, I will not finish reading this book. However, I will read a review and may change my mind based on that review.

Without this program, I would not have sampled this read. Poetry isn't a genre that I tend to enjoy. Therefore, the genre and blurb would not have appealed to me. The cover and title are nice, but again, not ones that would pull my attention. The lack of customer ratings and the positive OBC one do not affect my opinion of the book. Due to the brevity of the book's sample, it is difficult to know if the book is well-edited. The sample did not include an actual poem from the book. I like the author's sentimental dedication section, where he dedicates this book to his late wife who died due to Parkinson's. It would have been good if at least one poem was present in the sample for potential readers to get a sense of how the book will be. Since I did not see an actual poem and the fact poems usually confuse me, I do not plan on buying and reading today's book.

I am not interested in poetry books, so I would not have read the book based on the genre. I did not change my mind after reading both the sample and the OBC review. In all honesty, the sample disappointed me; it only contains the table of contents. Because of that, I cannot say whether or not the book was professionally edited. I would suggest the author include two or three pages in the sample. However, I find the cover is unique, and the Amazon blurb gives enough information to intrigue the reader. According to the OBC review, the author shares his thoughts and emotions about faith, humanity, love, and friendship by using a positive, hopeful tone and easy-to-read writing style. The book is composed of 20 poems; it will surely appeal to those interested in short poetry books.

This sample doesn’t give much to go on as it is a table of contents. However, the review gave a lot of insight into what the book entails. I read and reviewed Diverse Part II about a year ago, and it seems that this first book is along those same lines. The author seems to write in a very straight forward fashion about his faith and observations of life in a comforting and uplifting tone. After going through Parkinson’s and the death of his wife, he turned to writing poems to express his feelings. While I loved it, I don’t read a lot of poetry and only do so sparingly. So, for that reason, I won’t be finishing this one, but I do cherish the one I have in my keeping from a year ago.
Because the sample really didn’t showcase any poems, I didn’t find any errors in spelling, grammar or punctuation. I will definitely send this out on my social media for others to look into. I probably wouldn’t have found this without the online book club as I generally don’t read poetry on a usual basis. I wish this author the best of luck.

Total ~ 19%
A World Diverse earned a score of 19%.
In other words, out of the top-level reviewers who read at least the first 10 pages of this book, 19% plan to read the whole book.
IMPORTANT: Any score over 10% is considered very good. And any score above 0% is acceptable.
Over a million books are published each year. Any given person could not even read .0001% of the books out there. This means readers have to be very selective. Even taking the time to look over reviews and blurbs, let alone read samples, is more time than most readers can afford for most books. The First Ten is a powerful focus group that addresses those issues. It creates a helpful tool for authors, publishers, and other readers.
