Escape by Belle Ami is an action-packed romance novel set in the modern day Middle East. Cyrus, a spy working with the Ministry of Intelligence and Security of Iran's nuclear program is in deep under cover. When he comes to the rescue of Layla, a beautiful American tourist stuck in an Iranian prison, will his cover be blown? As the unlikely pair look for safety in the shadows, they also begin to find solace in each other's arms. Can they make it out of Iran alive? Will the secrets they keep from each other rip them apart?

Ami's thorough and detailed character development and on the edge of your seat action scenes really captures a reader's attention. She took a modern-day hot topic that is the rising tensions between the United States and Middle East regarding nuclear arms and humanized it with such strong and complex characters. Ami's research and attention to detail regarding the various cultures portrayed in the story, both Eastern and Western, make this more than a damsel in distress sort of romance novel, but more a novel about human interaction, regardless of personal differences, in times of strife and conflict.

As a reader, I couldn't help but think about the world we live in and realize that Ami probably is not too far off the mark of things that really happen in the Middle East today. When I think back to news reports of bombings and casualties, it is hard not to picture people with back grounds and passions like Cyrus and Layla and how it affects them. I was truly rooting for the characters throughout the book.

Escape is a quick, easy read. The style in which Ami writes is easy to follow and detailed without being over dramatic or exaggerated as you might find in other romance novels involving a large amount of action and thrilling scenarios of escape. I found that I could not put it down and finished this book in one sitting. Overall, I give Escape by Belle Ami 4 out of 4 stars. This story had me completely intrigued and entertained throughout and left me feeling a multitude of emotions.

If you enjoy international spy novels with bits of steamy romance, you will enjoy Escape. I really appreciated how the main female protagonist was a damsel in distress without being completely useless or there simply to be a part of the romance story line. If you are somewhat caught up with the politics around the world today you will greatly appreciate Ami's romantic pairing of a Jewish character and a Muslim character and may find yourself wondering why it is that hard to get along.

Reader warning: There are a few graphic sexual scenes, including an attempted rape throughout the story. That being said, the sexual scenes are not just tossed into the story to add some heat, but instead further the entire storyline along and add to the character depth and complexity that make this an enjoyable story.
