The Elf Brief by Jordan David is the first book in the Magi Charter Series. The book is based in the magical wonderland of the North Pole. This series will consist of 9 books.
Noel Night is a young elf who works in the list department of the North Pole. He believed there is nothing extraordinary about him, he does his job and he is quite good at it. That all changes when he gets a special task from Santa, just as Christmas Eve is approaching. You follow along with Noel on his adventure as he discovers more about the Place he calls home, and the secrets hidden within.
Jordan David does a fantastic job of setting the scene and describing the magic of the North Pole, from the mismatch promenade to the magnificent great Christmas tree that is tended too by a very grumpy polar bear and has a star on top that can be seen for miles. You really get a feel for what it would be like to live there, with the daily routine of the elves, the Christmas cheer all year and even how the elves come to be at the North Pole. The description really lives up to everything you would imagine and more. He also manages to make you laugh as he tells you the "real" story of the red nose reindeer, and Noel's attempt at flight, with the competitions and games that come along with it.
Having said this I rate this book 2 out of 4 stars. I have given this rating as I felt that there was not enough action in this book or even a good plot twist. Although Jordan David is great at descriptions, the book drags a little and at some points it was a struggle to continue reading. There seems to be too many named characters that makes it difficult to remember who is who and there were a few grammatical errors, for example; where he used 'new' instead of 'knew' when saying "Noel new the FCD purple hats were responsible..." And 'wins' instead of 'loses' when talking about the racing game. At the beginning it was hard to understand the ages of the lads and lasses and felt it was explained too late in the book.
If you have children or like a descriptive slower pace book then this is for you, especially around the holiday period, it really makes the season more magical and can be a great build up to Christmas Eve. However if you enjoy plot twist and a fast pace book I would suggest looking else where.
