This book by William E. Combs is on religion. In this book, the author examined the implications of the fall of the first couple in the garden of Eden. God created man and gave him the oversight over His other creations. Seeing that man is lonely, God made for him a companion in the person of Eve. These two were enjoying their fellowship with God and with each other until the devil came into the scene and deceived first the woman and then the man . By disobeying God’s command and eating the fruit they were forbidden not to, the couple gained the knowledge of good and evil. Consequently sin entered into the world and with it, ‘relational and spiritual death’. In other to remedy sin and restore man back to himself, God offered His Son Jesus Christ who died for the sins of mankind. Those who accept the sacrificial death of Christ received the gift of righteousness just as Abraham the father of faith was accounted righteous because he believed God’s promise to him. The author went on to discuss the implications of being a follower of Christ.

The book is relevant because sin is of universal occurrence. There is no society both primitive and civilized were wickedness and wicked acts do not occur. Moreover scientific and technological advancements coupled with educational attainments has not been able to wipe out evil from the heart of man. The author did well by reminding his readers that there is hope for restoration and this hope is found in Christ.

Mr. Combs displayed a rare expertise in treating this theme. His In-depth knowledge of the Bible and theology were glaring as one reads the book. However, he used simple language which makes the book easy and enjoyable to read. His rendition of some biblical passages which may have been boring as well as his use of personal live stories and testimonies to buttress salient points made the book interesting.

However, chapter eight which was on spiritual warfare was not comprehensive enough considering it’s importance. I feel the author should have devoted more space for this topic considering that the enemy of our souls is fighting relentlessly to see that the believer does not enjoy the full blessings that is ours in Christ.

The book was well written . I did not notice any typing or grammatical errors. Since there are no middle points allowed, I rate the book 3 out of 4 stars and recommend it to any one who want to understand the origin and implications of sin and how to overcome it and live a life pleasing to God.

I read and reviewed this book. You have brought out some issues that were not adequately tackled by the author like chapter 8. Whether it was by design or maybe he didn't give much thought to it, I do agree with you that the chapter was quite brief.
No wonder some reviews captured some quotes from this chapter and it may have influenced their thinking.

It says a lot if you plan to read this book a second time! Nice and thorough review. I like that you pointed out a very substantive critique of the lack of breadth for chapter 8.

The fact that so many people get different nuggets out of this book I believe is because Scripture is alive and meets each of us exactly where we are. Thanks for your review! And I agree with you on chapter 8. Books are written on this subject alone and the author barely touched the subject.
