Many people are surprised to discover that the Prayer of Salvation is not found in the Bible, but as Nicholas Maze points out in the opening pages of <i>By Invitation Only</>, the concepts contained in the prayer are found repeatedly in the Holy Bible. It was not until Billy Sunday and Billy Graham started using the prayer that its use became widespread.

Nicholas Maze says that God sees Christians the same way that a child sees a shiny new toy tucked under the Christmas tree. I really like the thought of God viewing me like my kids viewed Christmas toys when they were little. Like many toys, assembly is required. We find the assembly instructions in the Holy Bible. The great news is that God's dunamis power is available to everyone. As someone who has had to find a convenience store open on Christmas to buy batteries, I find that great news. He gives this power to all Christians because he wants them to prosper and enjoy perfect physical and emotional health. Maze maintains Christians must become a living testimony to God's power.

The book's second part holds a thoughtful discussion on why suffering must occur on Earth, using Job from the Old Testament as an example.

I particularly enjoyed the author's discussion of God's power being like a valve. Maze describes our need for prosperity to be like that valve. The more we focus on blessing others, the further the valve will open. When a person focuses on being a blessing to others, then God will bless them. Furthermore, this builds a living testimony, which will add souls to God's kingdom.

While I agree with the author on many points, his writing style, especially in the first half of the book, bothered me. He wrote many incomplete sentences. He also did not capitalize Devil in the second half of the book. I also disagree with the author about the Devil. I strongly believe that he is not everywhere, but that there is a spiritual war going on carried out by those under his command. For these reasons, I rate this book 3 out of 5.
