"Apollo's Raven" by Linnea Tanner is a captivating blend of historical fiction and fantasy set in 24 AD Britannia, where Princess Catrin finds herself embroiled in political intrigue and familial conflict. As tensions rise between her father, King Amren, and the Romans, Catrin discovers her unique powers as a divine messenger of Apollo and attempts to defy a curse that threatens her family's fate. Amidst betrayals and alliances, Catrin's burgeoning relationship with the Roman senator's son, Marcellus, faces opposition, yet their connection proves pivotal in navigating the treacherous waters of power and prophecy. With twists of fate, the narrative culminates in a climactic exchange marked by betrayal and defiance, where Catrin's newfound abilities alter the course of destiny for herself and Marcellus, promising a future intertwined against all odds.

The characters in "Apollo's Raven" are richly developed and multi-dimensional, each grappling with their own desires, fears, and conflicts. Princess Catrin emerges as a resilient and courageous protagonist whose journey of self-discovery is shaped by her mystical abilities and unwavering determination to defy fate. King Amren embodies the complexities of leadership, torn between duty to his kingdom and the weight of familial secrets and curses. Marcellus Antonius is portrayed with depth, navigating the political landscape with conflicting loyalties and a burgeoning romance with Catrin. Supporting characters like Queen Rhiannon, Mor, and Belinus add layers of intrigue and depth to the narrative, their actions driven by love, ambition, and the quest for power. Together, they form a compelling ensemble that drives the story forward.

Princess Catrin is my favorite character in "Apollo's Raven" due to her compelling blend of strength, vulnerability, and resilience. Her journey of self-discovery, fueled by her mystical abilities and determination to defy fate, captivates readers from the start. Catrin's courage in the face of adversity, her unwavering loyalty to her family, and her willingness to challenge societal norms make her a relatable and inspiring protagonist.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars, primarily because of its captivating protagonist, Princess Catrin. She embodies the essence of the story with her compelling blend of strength and vulnerability. The book is exceptionally edited. There is nothing I dislike about it.

I recommend this book for readers who enjoy immersive historical fiction with a touch of fantasy. Linnea Tanner expertly weaves together political intrigue, mystical elements, and compelling characters to create a captivating tale set in ancient Britannia.

The concept of Catrin’s connection with the raven is unique and intriguing, though it could have been better explained. This mystical bond adds depth to her character and ties her more closely to the magical aspects of the story.

The tension between Princess Catrin’s royal duties and her mystical abilities is a central theme that adds complexity to her character. Her struggle to balance these aspects of her identity is one of the most compelling parts of the story.
