Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign tells the story of Adam, a teenager living in Piure, California. Adam seems like an ordinary high school student, but he has some unusual abilities like telekinesis that he can’t control. As he grapples with his telekinetic abilities and regular bouts of anger, Adam feels increasingly isolated from everyone around him. However, his world changes when he meets Carly, a girl who possesses supernatural abilities like healing and foresighting.

Together, they start to unravel secrets about their origins. They finally realized that they belonged to a group known as the Scions, destined for something far larger than they ever imagined. The novel further dives into Adam’s psychological struggles, his complicated relationships, and the challenges that come with possessing extraordinary ability. As Adam and Carly navigate their new reality, they must learn to harness their powers while dealing with the pressures of their regular lives.

I like many things about this book. One of the things I enjoy about it is the character depth. Adam is shown as a relatable guy who is divided between the need to fit in and the drive to comprehend his abilities. Carly’s bravery and loyalty create a powerful counterbalance, making their connection a crucial and engaging component of the plot. The author's ability to retain a sense of mystery and suspense throughout the narrative is another aspect of the book that I enjoyed.

I really enjoyed how this book blends the supernatural with real-life challenges. The novel clearly illustrates the challenges of adolescence, such as dealing with family issues and societal pressures, while also exploring the extraordinary aspects of Adam and Carly’s journey. This combination makes the characters’ experiences both relatable and thrilling. I don't dislike any aspect of this book. I didn't notice any errors while reading this book, which shows that it was exceptionally well-edited.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons I mentioned above. I recommend this book to readers who appreciate a blend of action, mystery, and character-driven storytelling.
