The novel, The Truth About Elves by Ekta R. Garg, is about Curtis the elf, a bartender in Las Vegas living his single life. He also works part-time for Mr. C in the Arctic Circle. Now, Curtis is assigned to wrap gifts by Mr. C, which inadvertently takes him back to a past traumatic experience that profoundly impacted his life. Doing this kind of task made Curtis busy, forgetting his trauma. However, this year marks the 10th anniversary of what made him start working for Mr. C for the ‘Night of’ where, all Christmas gifts get ready for distribution.
As the reader follows through the events unraveling in Curtis’s life, they realize that he has to accept his past and move on. The author makes the story interesting, showcasing the challenges Curtis faced both in his personal life and professionally. The author has also shown how those in leadership positions can render supportive frameworks, as Mr. C showed his support regarding Curtis’s traumas and helped him cope with it, giving the story a happy ending to appropriately befit any good Christmas-based story.
The book is written in clear language and a concise manner, making it appealing to a wide audience, even youngsters. However, the book offers a lot of information intermittently, which would overwhelm some readers. There are many short stories about elves which, in my opinion, was a little bit too much to take in at once.
This book is an informative and fun read as it discusses about mythical or magical creatures, the elves. I did not find any grammatical errors in the book, which I presume was professionally edited. The few negatives that I have listed earlier make me deduct one star, thus I rate this book four out of five. I would highly recommend this book to those who love magical, adventurous, and Christmas-based stories, as it offers a comprehensive look at one of the most beloved characters in mythology, the elves.
