The Newton Code by Liam Fialkov is a masterfully written, fast-paced thriller brimming with adventure and intrigue. From the outset, the storyline grips you as the author introduces Michael Evans, a successful family man and teacher in New York City, who is deeply devoted to his wife Melany and daughter Linda but feels a lingering restlessness. This unease leads him to reconnect with Stewart McPherson, an aging journalist with a mysterious assignment. Despite their previous collaborations, Michael is taken aback by McPherson’s unexpected call.

The narrative’s rich content transports readers to Jerusalem in 1002 BC, where we meet Yerubaal and his Jebusite family. This historical backdrop sets the stage for the unfolding contemporary events.
Suddenly, computers and electronic devices nationwide freeze, displaying an enigmatic message and the Ark of the Covenant. A sinister plot is in motion, and only McPherson, who unravels the terrifying scheme, and Michael, who infiltrates the online cult, seem aware of it. With Michael on sabbatical, the timing is perfect for him to embark on this dangerous mission. The plot thickens as Christian zealots, under the leadership of the enigmatic billionaire and military veteran Charles “Ark” Bishop, aim to reconstruct a sacred Jewish temple in Jerusalem by destroying the current one, potentially sparking a holy war. Their intricate network uses Newton’s calculations of the Temple of Solomon to support the bishop’s plan for the second coming of Christ. Thriller enthusiasts will find this book captivating. The author deftly incorporates historical references and intriguing details about Sir Isaac Newton while developing a compelling plot and relatable characters. The vividly described settings draw readers into the story, making it hard to put the book down until the final page.

Hooked from the first sentences, I found The Newton Code to be expertly crafted, driving readers to the edge of their seats and provoking thoughts about their beliefs. The story follows Michael, whom fellow journalist Stewart McPherson enlists to infiltrate a group of religious fanatics led by the charismatic war hero Charles Bishop. Michael, torn between his loyalty to his family and his growing respect for Bishop, faces a profound internal conflict as he works to prevent a catastrophic event. Fialkov’s narrative leaves readers contemplating the intersection of mathematics and creation, using historical mysteries found in religious texts. The protagonist, Michael, questions his motives and the cult’s objectives, pondering whether he can remain detached or be swayed by their proclaimed peace.

Fialkov adeptly introduces characters to elucidate history, and plot elements, or add tension, weaving in stories that initially seem tangential but ultimately reveal the location’s profound significance. This intellectually stimulating mystery provokes curiosity and invites readers to delve deeper into the topics it raises. Although the pacing occasionally slows, the book remains a worthy read. I would rate this book 4out of 4 stars.

The book offers a refreshing historical perspective on the Temple Mount in Jerusalem, emphasizing its long-standing role in conflict and death. It also reveals a lesser-known side of Sir Isaac Newton, highlighting his efforts to decode religious texts to uncover the universe’s secrets. This unique and refreshing novel is a must-read for fans of suspenseful mysteries. I look forward to reading more from this talented author, including the prequel, The Broadcast. I recommend this book to everyone.
