Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign intricately weaves a captivating narrative that revolves around Adam's life as a socially awkward teenager grappling with complex emotions, a deep-seated disdain for his father, Mark, and a peculiar fixation on his mother, Jo. The story takes a compelling turn when Adam encounters Carly, a new student with telekinetic powers, leading to a unique and intense relationship that challenges Adam's perceptions and beliefs.

As the plot unfolds, Adam's internal struggles intensify as he begins to question his own identity and origins. The revelation that his parents are not his biological parents adds a layer of complexity to his already tumultuous life, forcing him to confront his true heritage and the implications it has for his existence. This realisation sets the stage for a profound exploration of self-discovery and the tapestry of interconnected lives that shape Adam's journey.

Leigh-Reign masterfully crafts a narrative that delves into the depths of human emotions, portraying Adam's inner turmoil and external conflicts with depth and nuance. The interactions between Adam and Carly serve as a catalyst for self-reflection and growth, highlighting the transformative power of human connections and the complexities of personal identity. The tapestry of the narrative unfolds with intricate layers of mystery, emotion, and revelation, drawing readers into a world where the boundaries between reality and the supernatural blur.

I like many aspects of this book. The author skillfully crafts a narrative that is both thought-provoking and emotionally engaging, drawing readers into Adam's internal struggles and the darkness that threatens to consume him. Adam, a multifaceted protagonist, drives his actions and thoughts with a range of emotions, from anger and resentment to love and remorse, showcasing the depth of character development. This nuanced portrayal creates a sense of empathy and understanding for the character, despite his unconventional desires.

I don't dislike any aspect of this book. One of the most compelling aspects of Opaque is its exploration of societal expectations and individuality. Adam's struggles to reconcile his true nature with the expectations of those around him are both relatable and poignant. The novel's themes of self-discovery and the human condition make it a compelling and memorable read. The author's ability to balance the darkness of Adam's mind with the warmth of his relationships adds depth and complexity to the story, making it a must-read for fans of psychological fiction. I didn't notice any errors while reading this book, which shows that it was exceptionally well-edited.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars for the reasons I mentioned above. I recommend this book to fans of psychological fiction, as well as those who appreciate complex characters and thought-provoking themes. The novel's exploration of societal expectations, individuality, and the human psyche makes it a compelling and memorable read. However, it's important to note that the book contains mature themes and content, so it may not be suitable for all readers.
