Philosophy from the Mud by Erik Quisling is a unique guide on how to live a better life told through a mixture of practical advice and original fables. In this book, author Erik Quisling intends to teach the reader how to practice Masterful Effortlessness using the Five Laws of Effortless Theory.

This book is a mixture of fiction and nonfiction. There are three fables in a graphic novel format. The rest of the book is a nonfiction guide on how to get more out of your life. This deep and complex book compels the reader to reflect on the lessons taught and apply them to their life.

There were many things that I liked about this book. To start with, I loved the illustrations. While simple, I thought they were great and got the point across. The simplicity tied in well with the book as a whole. I also loved how the fables tied in with the lessons. I was not sure if I would like to have a graphic novel format in the middle of a self-help book, but it tied in perfectly. It helped to support the lessons and laws that the author was explaining.

Another thing that I liked was the exercises that the author included after explaining each law. It helps the reader implement each part of the theory into practice. I also loved the message of the book as a whole. The author encourages you to pursue your goals in life. The unique storytelling keeps you engaged and is interesting to read.

The only thing that I did not like was the author's notes in the middle of the fables. While they help you understand the author's intended purpose, it disrupts the flow of the reading experience. I feel like they were awkwardly placed and could be executed better.

Overall, I'd give this book 5 out of 5 stars. The reason for this is there were many things that I liked about this book, which included the illustrations, the format, the message, and the exercises. Also, the book was well written. The lack of mistakes shows that this book was professionally edited. The one thing that I did not like was the placement of the author's notes. I would recommend this unique self-help book to anyone who wants to reach their goals or learn how to live a happier life.

This review is concise and informative. I appreciate that the mix of fictional fables ties in with the non-fictional advice based on the lessons from the fables. This format appeals to me. The fact that it is well-edited is a plus. This is a book I want to read. I am putting it on my bookshelves. Thank you. :tiphat:

I am trying to read more non-fiction to "broaden my horizons" so to speak. This seems to be a perfect choice since it also contains some fiction. Thans!

Thanks for your thoughtful review. I remember reading part of this book when it was the Book of the Day and enjoyed it more than I thought I would. This illustrations were fun and surprisingly not distracting considering it is a self help book. I don't think I got to any of the fables, so I will have to take your word on the issue of the placement of the author's notes.

The mixture of fiction and nonfiction elements, with three fables presented in a graphic novel format alongside a nonfiction guide, adds depth and richness to the book. It allows readers to engage with the material in different ways and encourages reflection on the lessons taught.

I have read and reviewed a number of self-help books but have yet to read one that combines advice with fables. This is a well written review for what sounds like a very interesting book. Keep up the good work!
