Crossing Paths by Nina Purtee is a meandering tale of Annie and her fiance Ramone as they navigate their relationship and the trials that life throws their way. Overall, I give the book a three out of five stars. I based my review on a few different factors: plot, characters, and setting.

First, the plot. The book starts off where the last book left off. Annie and Ramone just got engaged, and are looking forward to spending the rest of their lives together. Without getting into any spoilers, the overall plot for the book is pretty bare-bones. If you like to read books for their plot, this book is not for you. This story is primarily a romance, and the author definitely places more of a focus on the setting and the characters and their relationships with each other.

Which leads me to evaluating the characters. To be honest, I had a hard time remembering who all of the characters were throughout the entire book because each character is written with the same exact voice. When each character is written the exact same way but with different names, it is difficult to get interested in their individual side story. The book also does a lot more telling you what the characters are thinking and feeling than showing you. I was told a lot about the heartwarming relationships Annie and Ramone have with their family and each other, I was not shown.

Lastly, the setting. The author herself has a love of traveling, and that shines through in this book. There is a lot of love put into describing all of the beautiful places that Annie and her family go to during the story. The history and geography that is woven throughout the book really brings the setting to life.

To conclude, the story and characters were pretty bland and I had a hard time keeping track of the entire cast of characters as more were added. The setting of the book was the most intriguing part of the book, and I enjoyed being transported to far off places.
