Relieved: A True Story About Making It Work by Cheryl Richardson, is a nonfiction book that talks about a beautiful Debora, a wealthy Texas oil heiress whose lifestyle was very difficult to comprehend from her teenage year. Debora, who believed her wealth represented her freedom, loved to shop for the best fashionable outfit, drive the best car and live in a very serene environment, but poor in maintaining all that she regularly loved to acquire.
One day, her onsite massage therapist, Amora introduced her to her friend Cheryl, a hairstylist who had an adorable Ocean-view studio in Carmel Highlands, to professionally help her unpack her boxes from New York to Carmel Valley. The unpleasant demeanor and the kind of mannerism displayed by Debora that day were cleared enough for Cheryl to walk away after that first project but went ahead to accept the offer of becoming her trusted personal assistant. It was later that she discovered not only the nonchalant attitude of Debora towards her health but also the lack of consideration for people and animals in her life.
Despite several detrimental experiences and emotional trauma Cheryl went through, she could still be easily cajoled that she found it difficult to say no to Debora's demands because she thought she could help in her mental and social instability; also anticipating a great reward for the service she'd rendered until she got relieved after Debora's death.
This book is not a romantic or a religious book, but reasonably discusses Debora's absurd sexual life and the dogmas that enthralled her into sticking to chatting with spiritual healers on the phone and having few physical contacts with people, which led to her dead body being discovered after days.
Aside from the typos and the punctuation errors that needed to be improved upon, the detailed narration of events, characters, and locations made by the author is what I greatly appreciate, which are the reasons for my rating.
I'll like to recommend this book to anyone in a tight corner faced with indecision and to those who love placing their joy in other people's hands.
