Review of Phobia Relief
Here is my review for the book Phobia Relief by Kalliope Barlis:
**Rating: 3 out of 5 stars**
I read this book because I wanted to learn how to overcome my fear of spiders, which has been bothering me for a long time. I was hoping to find some effective and practical techniques that could help me get rid of my phobia and feel more confident and relaxed. However, I was not very impressed by this book, which did not meet my expectations.
The book is based on the author's personal experience of using neuro-linguistic programming (NLP) to conquer her own fears and phobias. She claims that NLP is a powerful and proven method that can help anyone change their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors in a positive way. She also claims that she has helped thousands of people with their phobias using NLP techniques. The book consists of three parts: The Cause, The Cure, and The Future. The first part, The Cause, explains the origin and nature of phobias, and how they affect our lives. The second part, The Cure, introduces the basic principles and tools of NLP, and provides some exercises and examples that are supposed to help the reader overcome their phobias. The third part, The Future, offers some tips and advice on how to maintain the results and enjoy a fear-free life.
The book has some strengths, such as the author's enthusiasm and passion for NLP, which are evident throughout the book. She also writes in a simple and clear language, which makes the book easy to understand and follow. She also includes some photos and diagrams that illustrate her points and examples.
However, the book also has many weaknesses that outweigh its strengths. One of them is the lack of evidence and credibility for the author's claims. She does not provide any references or sources for her information or methods. She does not explain how NLP works or why it is effective for phobias. She does not show any data or statistics that support her results or progress. She does not mention any scientific or psychological research or studies that back up her claims. She simply asserts that NLP is the best solution for phobias, without any proof or verification.
Another weakness is the lack of depth and detail for the author's advice and guidance. She does not go into enough detail or explanation for each topic or concept. She does not provide any specific examples or scenarios that demonstrate how to apply her techniques or strategies. She does not give any feedback or evaluation on how to measure one's improvement or performance. She does not offer any alternatives or variations for different situations or preferences. She simply gives a brief overview or summary of each topic and expects the reader to figure out the rest.
Overall, I did not like this book and I would not recommend it to other people who are looking for a reliable and comprehensive guide on how to get rid of their phobias. It has too many flaws and gaps that make it unconvincing and unsatisfying. It could have been better with more evidence, depth, and detail.
