Review of Why God Allows Evil and Suffering
The book Why God Allows Evil and Suffering” by Sine Nomine provides a unique and comprehensive answer to the philosophical problem of evil, sin, and suffering. It reconciles the existence of evil and suffering with the existence of an all-loving and all-powerful God.
The book starts by posing the theological problem of why suffering and evil exist despite the existence of an all-loving and all-powerful God.
The book states that suffering or evil is necessary, as it is the consequence of our free will.
The book outlined five propositions contained in the problem of evil and suffering, which included that God is all loving, all powerful, all just, and all wise, and that evil and suffering.
In the discussion of these propositions, God, despite being all-powerful, all-loving, all-just, and all-wise, shows that His love of humanity precedes all.
God's creation of new life required him to sacrifice the full exercise of his own absolute power. God's sacrifice involved the transfer of a portion of his absolute power to his creation in order to provide them with the ability to act independently and the capacity to experience love.
Man's relationship with God and other men, which is built on love (selflessness), meant he was happier, but with the adoption of selfish objectives over his relationship with God, greed replaced selflessness as the predominant force governing his thinking, desires and behavior.
This change not only undermined man's ability to experience wholly loving relationships with others; it also made him susceptible to pain, suffering and death.
The first humans' stature and power were so much like God's that, through the exercise of their will, they formed the basis of both their own nature and the nature of all life placed under their rule.
The fall of the first humans meant the transformation of the timeless being into a temporal state. The fact that man had the power to change the very essence of his being and everything under his rule meant that everything would fall.
Man's faith is necessary for salvation because faith is an indispensable prerequisite for the existence of love, including love between man and God.
The reason for our existence is to be in a loving relationship with God. But because God is a timeless being, man should also be a timeless being. That is why Jesus, who is the union of God and man, is the only way to return to a timeless state.
I have never felt so good and ignorant at the same time. But this book has just given a logical response to the problem of evil and suffering. Many people, including myself, have attempted to answer this old question, but not as well as in this book.
It is packed with facts that are meticulously reinforced with references. This book can be loved by everyone, not only Christians.
The book is well written, with each issue being discussed at length and providing good, relatable references. It is professionally edited; hence, I give this book a five out of five rating.
