I rate Why God Allows Evil and Suffering a 4 out of 5 stars .

I felt hopeful about the content of this book, and continued to be impressed by the execution. I hold an academic background in both research and theology, and I felt like the author used incredibly appropriate research studies to support his theological claims.

I studied this book with a fine-toothed comb, and could not find a single typo. It is rare to find the term "empirical research study" in a theological-type resource, and for this, I am elated. Sources were used appropriately, (i.e., as a sandwich: source, claim, source). The Turabian format with footnotes appeared accurate as well.

With the density of the content, some sentences could be simplified for a broader audience to help with clarity in understanding the content presented. The further we venture into the book, the more difficult it becomes to understand what is being explained.

Overall, I did not feel as if the author was trying to sway me one way or the other, rather they presented the dilemma (why do bad things happen to good people), provided academic research studies along with their results, and then explained how to input the research into the dilemma.

I cannot stress enough how impressed I am with the format of this book.

The only weaknesses that I would suggest polishing would be to help simplify the language. The title of this book would lead an ordinary individual without theology background to pick it up while looking for answers. Imagine this being your first taste of theology, it's a bit of a heavy load. There were parts after the middle of the book that I re-read and still never fully understood what was being said. If the audience is broad, then the language should be broad as well.

I left this book with a satisfying answer to an age-old question.
