A Forgotten Door Called Home dips in and out of the lives of the six main characters. Each chapter focuses on one or two of these women, switching back and forth between the characters to tell their different stories and how they link with each other.

The author has a talent for creating likable and interesting characters. There are chapters set in the USA, Central America, and England. There is even a chapter set decades before (when a mother and her child flee Guatemala). I enjoyed how varied all the storylines were.

Sadly, this book is littered with spelling mistakes, missing words, and incorrect punctuation. Sometimes I had to decipher the meaning of sentences. Here is an example of this poor-quality writing: "You that I am always with you, you carry on piece of me."

I know (being British myself) that the author cut a few corners in her research regarding British customs. It made me cringe when Sandra, a so-called Brit, described how to make tea. This mistake led me to question the general accuracy of the author's research.

A few times, the characters gave each other advice and the benefit of their wisdom. This came across as the author including some spiritual devotions. Having said that, Christian Scripture is not quoted often.

This book is only 260 pages long. Some of the storylines are very brief and, as a result, I did not get to know the characters enough to fully empathize with them.

This is not a terrible book but not one I would recommend to a friend. I wish the author had asked her church community to proofread it more thoroughly. I would have given it a higher rating if the quality of the editing had been better. As it is, I give A Forgotten Door Called Home 2 out of 5.
