A Bloody Book is a book that has been told from Maxx’s perspective. Maxx describes in detail some of the horrific experiences that he had to endure as a child and details his monstrous upbringing and how this has led to who he is today. With the help of his new “Reading Hell” class teacher Mr. Foxx, Maxx is given the opportunity to delve deep into his memories in order to discover when “he stopped giving a crap”. Chris Bowen has done a fantastic job when writing this book as he was able to allow to reader to gain a deeper connection with the main protagonist. He has also allowed to reader to understand and realise that no matter what your background is you can still turn your life around.

There are many positives in relation to this book. Firstly, I feel that Chris Bowen has done a fantastic job in conveying the importance of building relationships and trust with children when you are working in an educational setting. I would recommend this book to anyone that is looking to work with children, especially those that come from a troubled background.

There are a few things that I feel would make this book even better. Firstly, I feel that if the book had been proofread better than the story would have flowed better. There were times in the book that information was being repeated quite a lot throughout the chapters. I also found it quite hard to get into at the start of the book. It took a few chapters for me to begin to feel engaged with the book as the story was moving quite slow to begin with.

Overall, I would give this book a 4 out of 5-star rating. My main reason for giving the book a 4 out of 5-star review is because I feel that the book could have been edited better.
