Zack wanted to see the world before returning to live with his girlfriend, Tally. He enlists in the Navy and is prepared to fight in a war that teaches him more than he ever imagined. Zack asked for leave to go back home for some time, and the time at home took me off the whole war zone and into the peace of the land. The contrast between the turbulent and alert war zone and mundane farm life was quite large.

Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War And Its Aftermath by Randy Miller is a fiction story about the Vietnam War and Vietnam War Navy veterans. Through Zack, the author has given the Vietnam War veterans affected by Agent Orange a face and a way to connect with readers. The story has the themes of war, friendship, loyalty, love, and betrayal.

I like how the author wrote the story; he did a great job with the imagery and crafted a realistic, heartbreaking tale. The author was very good with description, and he created a bond with Zack such that we could relate to his emotions and the events that he came across.

The author does a fantastic job of transporting the readers to the sea, and the graphic war visualization shows the dangers of war and the numerous people involved. The description of the land topography and the geographical conditions was vivid and informative. He has depicted the different health conditions of the people stuck in the war. I liked knowing these details and how helpful the Navy was in these cases. It is a real page-turner that will leave you angry and sad.

I rate it five out of five stars for all the above reasons. There was nothing about the book that I didn’t like. A professional has skillfully edited the book, and there were no errors. I recommend it to those interested in learning Zack’s tale and readers interested in reading a war story with the above themes.
