Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is a collection of fascinating events that impacted the author’s life. Life as an activist and ambassador proved very difficult for a person to endure, and Dr. Ghoulem wrote about his personal ideologies and experiences in this piece. However, one message is predominant, which is freedom and equality for all people, no matter who they are. In addition, he made history as the first scientist to give a theory on the ‘Reverse Transcriptase Enzyme.’
Right from his childhood, the author had observed the ill-treatment of the Algerian natives by the french colonialists, which sparked something deep inside him. This inspired him to do his part and fight against the injustices done to his people. His discovery of a scientific wonder made him well-known, and he decided to harness that influence in his pursuit of freedom, despite his personal setbacks.
I found positive aspects while reading this book. There were not a lot of errors, which led me to believe that the book was properly edited. The book is filled with heavy themes like war, peace, independence, colonialism, and a host of others. The author describes how his people were treated unfairly under the guise of being colonized by the French. In my opinion, though the harsh experience caused a lot of loss and suffering, it inspired him and countless others to step up and do the right thing.
There are also several images included by the author to emphasize some of the information being discussed and further enrich the reading experience. The language and diction used are straightforward and easy to understand. This was done to allow all types of readers to tap into the vast knowledge being shared. The book is addictive and filled with many specific details about the author’s life. The memoir focuses heavily on history and politics, but the author’s honest and heartfelt opinions prevented the book from becoming a dull read.
I personally enjoyed the religious aspects of the book that teach and create different insights into one's choices. I was unable to find any negative aspects while reading this book. And after careful consideration, I will not hesitate to rate this book four out of four stars because of its insightful and well-structured nature. It was disheartening to discover that important parts of Algerian history were erased during their colonization by France. I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in political and historical memoirs. It would also be of great benefit to anyone willing to learn extensively about religion, peace, diplomacy, and other related matters.
