The phenomenon of life tells us that we eat to live. It makes complete sense. But what happens if someone lives to eat? Unfortunately, some people suffer from such a problem, known as "Compulsive Eating Disorder." Binge by Anne Pfeffer is a book that highlights this issue. It aims to share the struggles of a compulsive eater, humorously. The book also reflects how the habit to eat unusually, can be controlled by a few lifestyle changes.

The story revolves around a 27-year-old girl, named Sabrina. She dreams about becoming a famous novelist and tries hard to get her novel published, but has no luck. Meanwhile, she works in a talent agency where she tolerates her boss's rude and ignorant behavior. Sabrina and her sister, Lena, have had a tragic childhood. Due to all the unfortunate events in her life, Sabrina has unknowingly become a compulsive eater. She finds comfort in her food and an escape from her problems. As a result, she gains extra weight, which leaves her feeling insecure about her body image.

When Sabrina's novel finally gets selected to be published, she is over the moon. But things become complicated when the launch party for the book is on the same day as an important event at work. On top of that, she is expected to make an appearance in a dress that she does not fit in, anymore.

While juggling between these problems, she starts eating uncontrollably. Lena and her boyfriend, suggest Sabrina joins a 12-step program to lose weight and her eating addiction. She reluctantly joins the program. But what happens next? Will she be able to make it? Will she overcome her eating disorder? Or is she in for an unexpected experience? Grab this book to find out how this program proves to be a life-changing journey for her mental and physical health.

I appreciate how the writer has brought light to an overlooked issue in a manner that is informative and fun to read, both at the same time. The best part about the book is the gradual growth of the main character, Sabrina. I especially loved the detailed description of all the snacks that Sabrina craved. It kept me engaged. The book also gives a strong message to the readers about the importance of being supportive of each other and how it helps to cope with complex problems.

There is nothing to hate about the book. However, there is one aspect that I do not admire. In the first half of the book, being overweight is repeatedly related to being unattractive. While most of these instances are intended to be funny, they might hurt the sentiments of some people. Therefore, I rate the book 4 out of 5 stars.

The book is well-edited. I came across one error only. A few instances of profanity were also found. Overall, it is an interesting book to read. It will mostly be liked by the female audience who are secure about their body image. I recommend it to people who enjoy reading enlightening books written amusingly.
