Review of A Dream For Peace
The autobiography of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, A Dream for Peace, recounts his incredible journey as a scientist, international diplomat, and freedom fighter for Algeria's liberation who devoted his entire life to promoting peace. This book tells the tale of the author's childhood, education, important travels, and role in the medical world.
Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born and brought up in Aïn Beïda, during a period when France was in control of the territory. He went to France to study medicine, where he also met a few friends, and together they formed an association to combat colonial oppression. He later became a professor at Yale University. As the book went on, the author gave a detailed account of his life and how he contributed to diplomacy. The author showcased his love for traveling and trying to make changes in every part of the world when, at the end of the book, he recalled having traveled the world 40 times.
What I found special about Dr. Ghoulem Berrah is how he balanced the books in almost every field; he did well in politics, international relations, activism, and medicine. His successes in medicine were second to none, and he also became the first ever scientist to give a hypothesis on enzymes. Another aspect of this book that I must point out is its historical accuracy. The book was in agreement with most of the historical books that were written for the same course. Finally, given how inspirational and educational this book was, if everyone could look into the life of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, I think they would learn a lot.
The plot of this book was excellent, but maybe the author will want to polish the narrative a little bit. I believe there were a few unnecessary things the author added that he could have sacrificed to make this book fast-paced.
I will rate A Dream for Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah 5 out of 5 stars since there were almost zero things I liked about the book, so I think this rating is justifiable. Memoirs are always the author's story, but Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's memoir goes beyond that. It is a motivation for the young and a revelation of truth for historians.
I also examined the editorial part of this book, and I found no errors, so it's fair to say it was exceptionally well edited. I do recommend this book to everyone looking for an inspiring story to read and also to history lovers.
