A Dream For Peace is an autobiography written by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. This biography was created from memoirs written by Dr. Ghoulem, which were collected and organized by his widow after his death. Dr. Ghoulem was born in a small village in Algeria. He lost his father at a young age. Dr. Ghoulem was a bright kid that got a number of scholarships to study overseas. He decided to study medicine at a university in France. During his time at the French university, he was seriously involved in anti-colonial activism. Due to his activism, he was not able to finish his studies at the French university. He transferred to the University of Indiana where he completed his programme in medicine. He was given a lecturing position at Yale University.

At some point in his life, he was invited by President Houphouët-Boigny, the leader of Ivory Coast, to become a part of his government. He was appointed a diplomat in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He worked closely with President Houphouët-Boigny on an as-needed basis. He was seriously involved in the diplomacy/negotiations for the resolution of several conflicts, such as the conflict between Israel and Palestine. He dealt with many famous leaders of his time, such as Mubarak and John Kennedy. Dr. Ghoulem was a man of peace and love; this even reflected in his personal life as he was a Muslim man that married a Christian woman for so many years.

The main reason I love A Dream For Peace is that the story of Dr. Ghoulem is inspiring. I was motivated by the story of a young African from a poor background who overcame all odds to become a reputable diplomat. This book teaches many important lessons. The first lesson that it teaches is political activism. We see this lesson in the anti-colonial activities of Dr. Ghoulem when he was a young man in the university. Another important lesson taught in this book is the importance of peace and the effective use of diplomacy in conflict. Dr. Ghoulem used his position and skills as a diplomat to facilitate the resolution of international and violent conflicts. Dr. Ghoulem was an ardent advocate for peace in several war-torn areas, such as Palestine. This book is thoughtful and well-written; it is a wonderful read. I did not notice any errors in this book; it is exceptionally edited.

The only negative feature of this book is that it expresses a lot of information concerning sensitive topics like the Isreali-Palestinian conflict. The perspectives expressed in the book on such sensitive topics might be offensive to some people.

A Dream For Peace is the inspiring story of an African. This story is executed skillfully, such that the reader will enjoy the story and be motivated by the story as well. The sensitive information contained in the book did not affect my enjoyment of the story; hence, I rate it 4 out of 4 stars.

Young Africans need to read this book. It will motivate them to overcome all odds and become successful. As well, I recommend this book to diplomats and people that are interested in conflict resolution.
