Review of The Trafficking Murders
Revolutions and social reforms have strived to eliminate social evils from society. But no matter how hard we try to throw the dirt out, there still remains a corner that houses evil and facilitates its existence. One such crime is human trafficking. In Northern Ireland, there seems to be an alarming crime that has caught the eye of the most efficient police officers in the town. The suspected crime involves a stunning, young Chinese girl who is murdered and thrown into the premises of a residential area. When officers investigate the case, they come across information that leaves them baffled. The most denigrating crime to ever exist has now become a profession for some. Inspector Sheehan and his team discover the harsh truths and invest their emotions and logic into this case, leading to the roots of something terrible. To know what the crime entails, cling to The Trafficking Murders by Brian O'Hare.
I have read a lot of crime series, but this particular book has moved me. It isn't a book that describes bloodshed and crime that makes one squeal. The author has addressed social stigmas in a manner that is neither demeaning nor hurtful. Using a sensitive issue like human trafficking, is a risky yet worthy move, in my opinion. The author did not just go with the usual 'females being subjected to trafficking' narrative. But he introduced his readers to an entirely new realm of human trafficking: the 'Modern Escort Service'. The flow of the reading was smooth and engaging. Irish slang influences the language used in the book, yet is understandable to others. Character development was unique and empowering. I especially liked how different perspectives were used to narrate the stories of Northern Ireland’s dark crimes. The book was exceptionally well edited.
The book is enthralling. I didn't find any flaws in it.
I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. The Trafficking Murders is used as a medium to address social problems and crimes that wreck the lives of many. It highlighted not only the use of women for nasty acts but also the modern cover-up of this downtrodden crime. This book is wholesome. The author used a very intriguing plot to solve the crime, without dropping too many hints, but some significant ones here and there. The book is a complete package of drama, suspense, intrigue, sentiments, and realistic social storylines.
This book is part of a series but can be read as a standalone. Even though crime thriller is its dominant genre, it also features drama and mystery. Readers who prefer these genres for their reading will enjoy this piece of literature. True events also inspired this book, so anyone interested in some actual crimes will find this book handy.
