Review of Beyond the Higher Ground
Thomas A. Brigger is the author of the captivating historical fiction Beyond the Higher Ground. The main character of the novel is Tucker Mason, who struggles to find comfort in his daily life while being tormented by thoughts of his wife's death. When Tucker agreed to work on a construction project to build a prison in a small town in Virginia, things changed for him. The suspense starts as Tucker leaves his old life behind and moves to Wells County, where he also rents a home close to his prison construction site. Tucker rented a property that appeared to be reasonably regular from the outside, but he quickly experienced negative omens and realized that something was strange about the house. Everyone Tucker encountered in the town advised him to avoid the residence. Soon, Tucker encounters enigmatic occurrences himself, like his tire unexpectedly deflating, unidentified people stalking him throughout town, and other unfavorable occurrences.
Will Tucker get scared and flee, or will he choose to remain in the house and attempt to unravel its mystery? Is the couple who sadly perished there still haunting the house, or is it something else? Only by reading the book Beyond the Higher Ground will you be able to discover the answers to these queries.
This novel kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time since it is so full of suspense and thrillers. The author didn't waste any time, and the pace of the novel picked up on the first page. There are many twists, trials, and everything in between in the plot. The author crafted the narrative to resemble a riddle that readers wouldn't be able to crack until the final few pages. The suspense of this captivating novel entraps the readers, who are compelled to read the entire book at once.
Given that Tucker has such a distinctive character, I am attracted to his tenacity and willpower. I noticed the book featured a tonne of intricate information about the area that is described, which is fascinating and also helps to make this book instructive. As the novel reflects facts, I also learned a lot about the realities of the residents of Wells County.
Although the author did a fantastic job of fleshing out each character, I believe there are simply too many characters in this novel for me to remember them all. Nevertheless, I believe that this is a personal matter, and many readers may have varying views on it. Although I found a minor flaw in this book, it had no impact on how enjoyable I found it to read.
With the aid of a fictional plot, the author attempted to address several difficult and delicate topics, like drug misuse, murder, rape, and crimes, and to inform the readers about the realities surrounding such subjects. In addition, this book is incredibly well-edited, because I didn't find any grammatical mistakes in it. Taking everything I've said above into account, I'd like to give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
Any adult who enjoys an excellent novel with tension, thrills, crime, and fascinating characters should read this book. Additionally, I would like readers to know that this book contains non-borderline profanity.
