In Surviving the "Business" of Healthcare, Barbara Galutia Regis dissected the almost unspoken side of healthcare. She used her years of experience as a primary care provider to educate readers on the right decisions to make to alter their lives. At the publication of this book, the author was battling skin cancer, bringing a wholesome perspective to book. The author's experiences represented the perspectives of a care provider and a patient. The author informed her readers about the importance of making early and accurate choices for their health and how it affects them in the long run. This book addressed the need for health insurance, things to consider in selecting a PCP, shopping for medications, caring for loved ones, the legal side of healthcare and more. The author also shared her experiences in the field from a young age because she watched her father run his family practice, which inspired her to get into the field as well.

This short guide was truly an eye-opener. I discovered parts of healthcare I previously had no information on or didn’t see as truly significant. The author made her ideas clear, providing advice with the intent of catering to the well-being of the reader. I liked the scenarios provided at calculated points; they made the book very relatable. The reference photos provided at the end of the book also achieved the same result; they served as a means of identifying the various events mentioned throughout the book. I enjoyed how each topic was backed by statistical analysis. Although the author wrote from her experiences, she backed up her claims with facts and figures, which would prove vital in convincing the reader on each subject.

I disliked nothing about this book. Each aspect was touched on briefly but with adequate significance and equal emphasis. Although I would have loved to know more about the policies that shaped the health system into what it is currently, that doesn’t influence my opinion of the book. The book had just one error in it, and that is proof of the fact that it was professionally edited.

I rate this book 5 out of 5. The author dissected the complex and broad subject of healthcare and presented it in a simplified and comprehensible manner, making it easy for everyone to understand the critical decisions needed to ensure a secure and healthy future.

Surviving the "Business" of Healthcare by Barbara Galutia Regis is tailored for individuals willing to understand the world of healthcare on a surface and profound level. I recommend this book to them. It contains more than enough information on what patients and medical personnel need to do to manoeuvre the complicated health system. Although most of the references are based on the United States medical system, the entire idea relates to everyone.
