Ghoulem Berrah, in this fascinating biography, shares the episodes of his life, especially in his journey for peace and the fight for an independent Algeria. He shares everything including growing up as a Muslim in a well-respected family, suffering the loss of his parents at different phases in his life, imprisonment and threat, love life and failed marriages and his numerous accomplishments as a scientist, an activist and a special advisor to President Houphouët-Boigny.

Growing up in a Little town in Algeria and having firsthand knowledge of the effects of the French colonisation on the Algerians and how it threatened to curb their values and swallow their cultures, Ghoulem dreams for a better Algeria began, a way to gain their independence and recover their traditions. This dream birthed a fearless fighter and when Ghoulem is sent to Yale University he creates a team of like-minded students and together they began a fight for the independence of Algeria from French Colonists. Like all forms of Reformation, the Journey to achieve peace and an independent Algeria was not an easy one even for an enthusiastic and confident Ghoulem as he meets interrogations and opposition from persons of different religions, cultures and beliefs and to make matters worst he was even deprived of his fundamental rights for a particular period in his life. All these are documented by Ghoulem Berrah in the book: A Dream For Peace.

This book is both sensitive and emotional especially when the mother-son bond Ghoulem shared with his mother was halted by her sudden death. Ghoulem's detailed description of each event is commendable, he used this book to illustrate the themes of love, sacrifice, racial discrimination, culture, religion, self-development, independence and peace among many others. One event in this book that cracked my ribs was the Fidel Castro Speech: Fidel was scheduled to give a speech on a condition but Ghoulem having received the content of his speech earlier saw that some unpleasant statements could lead to a disaster if mentioned, he then decided with the technical team to mute the microphone just before Fidel goes into that part of his script that contained unpleasant words and instead claimed it was as a result of technical difficulties, so those words were uttered without volume to the audience. This event proved to be funny, but I must say Ghoulem was indeed thoughtful.

I found no negative aspects I could say this book possessed. All the events that took place in this book were realistic and stimulated curiosity, surprise and admiration in the mind of the readers. I love this book and have nothing to dislike about it.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. Besides the positive aspects of this book that I mentioned above this book is also free from errors and heavy language is not used. Therefore, I recommend this book to the general audience especially those interested in history, culture and reformation. There is a lot to learn from Ghoulem's viewpoint.
