Review of Surviving the Business of Healthcare
Surviving the “Business” of Healthcare -Knowledge is Power! A Unique Perspective from a 4th Generation Family Practice Provider and Now Cancer Patient is a book written by Barbara Galutia Regis, M.S., PA-C. The book contains twenty years of the author's medical experience and knowledge to advocate for others, so they can feel more confident and have better healthcare experiences. She wants the readers to make better healthcare decisions. She helps by navigating the confusing system and getting the right answers, along with sharing ways to save money and time. The author also aims to prepare you for the unexpected. She shares her advice, recommendations, and knowledge in this book.
The book has 29 chapters. Barbara mentions how healthcare has greatly changed over the past few generations. She says that without health insurance, it can cause you financial devastation overnight. As a family practitioner, Barb has a good idea of how patients can get better results. The topics addressed in the book include how to choose a primary care physician, how to plan for catastrophic healthcare costs, and how to be an effective advocate for yourself and loved ones.
I appreciated that the author began the book with a personal story. She included some of her childhood memories. Her father, grandfather, and great-grandfather had all been family practice physicians, and she was eager to follow in their footsteps. She could have only shared her knowledge, but instead she poured her heart into this book, demonstrating how determined she is to make her advice important. Towards the end of the book, she showcases images, which makes the book even more special and personal. Her determination to ensure that her patients don't waste money on healthcare made me happy; it's nice to know that there are still health care providers out there who genuinely care for you. It amazed me that she changed careers in her early thirties. I was impressed by her success in switching from a successful teaching career to an astounding career as a primary care provider.
There wasn't anything I disliked about the book. It is a short read, with only 146 pages. This book is written for people who live in America. I would have liked it if it had considered readers from other parts of the world as well. Furthermore, I didn't discover another downside.
It is evident that the book was extensively edited. I have been enlightened by this book to carefully observe my options when making a healthcare decision. I award this book an impeccable 4 out of 4 stars.
People who have questions about healthcare, different types of providers, or need advice must read Surviving the “Business” of Healthcare. Readers who are concerned about saving money or who have a limited budget should also read this book.
