Sanctuary is a science fiction novel that takes the reader to a different version of our universe. Author Gavin Catt immerses us in their space opera and many worlds, following the expeditions of Admiral and Crowned Prince William Gavin. In the novel, Prince William Gavin closely follows the capture, trial, and punishment of the dark emperor who has been wreaking havoc across the galaxy.

The location Sanctuary is a place where delegates from all over the galaxy come to in times of need such as in the case of the Dark Emporer. The crown prince is proud to be the representative of the White Commonwealth of earth. While he is there he attends a council meeting but the author does not give details of the proceedings.

In the story, the space missions are intertwined with the main character's love interest. Michelle becomes his wife and the wedding is described in detail. This provides a lovely reprieve from the rest of the action. He also has a great relationship with his sister Kathryn and the two women join William on a space adventure. The author makes sure to include female characters but they are a bit two-dimensional just as William is.

This book could be a wonderful story, an epic one even if it was given more substance. The descriptions of the characters' surroundings are unclear or what is focused on is not relative to the story, such as talking about their clothing too much. The characters themselves were hard to follow both through the dialogue and their lack of complexity. This is why I rate it 2 out of 4 stars.

I will say that the plot has the potential to be something great and that is what saves this book. Grammatically the writer did a good job of making sure their book was polished.

If you enjoy space operas with unique plotlines then this book may be for you.
