This is a memoir about the Algerian freedom fighter, Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. He was born in a small town in Algeria during the period when Algeria was still under the colonial powers of France. He grew up witnessing and being a victim of oppression against his people. This became a drive for his cause of fighting against discrimination. He refused to be a victim of this discrimination too. During his school days in France, he joined and formed revolutionary groups. His belief in equality was so strong that even when faced with challenges and problems, he never gave up.

This book was a mix of emotions. While I felt sad and pity for all the dangers and challenges Dr. Ghoulem faced in his pursuit against discrimination, I was happy that he succeeded. I have heard stories about how some African leaders were bought out by the colonial masters to keep quiet and quit their fight against discrimination, but Dr. Ghoulem was not like that. There was nothing in the world that could stop him from achieving his desired goal. His lifestyle should be an example for those in government today. I admire the determination and courage of Dr. Ghoulem. He never allowed anything to stop him from achieving his personal goals. He always desired to become a doctor, and he achieved this and even graduated as the best in his class. His life is truly worthy of emulation.

The writing style and tone were good. The author narrated the events as if he was having a conversation with the readers. This book deepened my knowledge of Africa’s history, and lots of historical facts and discoveries can be learned from this book too. I never knew much about countries like Algeria, Morocco, and the Ivory Coast until I read this book. Finally, the greatest lesson I learned from this book is that violence can never solve any dispute. Violence only fuels the dispute and causes more harm than good. Peace is always the preferable option.

Aside from the few errors I found while reading this book, I could not find any other things to dislike about it. This book was lovely to read and the images that were included helped in picturing the settings in this book.

I am rating A Dream For Peace 4 out of 4 stars because it was inspirational and educational. This book was professionally edited, and the few errors I found were not enough to stop me from enjoying the book. I hereby recommend this book to lovers of African historical novels. Political leaders should also read this book as a lot of virtues can be learned from the life of Dr. Ghoulem.

It relieves me to know that there was a good reward for his hard work. Dr. Ghoulem sure lived a life worthy of emulation as a revolutionist. Great review.

Something must trigger a man into action. In the case of Dr. Ghoulem, it was discrimination and racism. Thanks for the insightful review.

It's interesting how Berrah lived his life. I especially applaud him for the way he honored his wife in public. A husband like that is worthy of imitation. Great review.

It is always fascinating to me to read more than one review of the same book. Everyone who reads a book can take away something different. Dr. Berrah certainly faced his share of challenges, but always overcame.

Dr Ghoulem is one of the very few who achieved a revolution most peacefully. The book has a lot to learn from it both historically and in motivation.

It is usually spirit lifting to see or read about someone who has gone through so many challenges and emerged victorious. It's nice to know that Dr. Berrah faced all his challenges and came out victorious.
