Review of A Dream For Peace
The fight against discrimination and racism has always been a tough one and many have lost their lives for this cause. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah's A Dream For Peace is a memoir of a revolutionist who gave his all for this cause.
The author was born at a time when Algeria was still under the colonial power of France. He was born in a small town in Algeria into a disciplined family that placed a high value on education. His family was polygamous and he was the only surviving son of his mother. This made her cherish him so much, and even after the death of his father, she gave her all to make him complete his education. He was awarded a scholarship to study medicine in France, and that was where he became a revolutionist. Having faced a lot of racism and discrimination, he put up a strong fight against it. He graduated as a doctor and even went on to become a professor.
I loved that this book is well detailed. Every setting, character, and event was described to the very last detail, which made this book more fun to read. The writing style was unique and had a great flow. It was chronologically organized and thus created a very flowing storyline. The inclusion of pictures also made the setting easy to imagine. I loved that this piece talked about real-life situations like discrimination against minority groups and racism. This book would serve as a means of creating awareness against these evil acts. Finally, this book shows that violence cannot be the answer to any situation. No matter how pressing that situation might be.
There is absolutely nothing to hate about this book. Unlike most memoirs, this book was not boring to read. I admire the determination and resilience of the author. Even when he was faced with challenges, he always found a way back to his feet. I also loved the fact that he valued his education and, despite all the revolutionary activities that engaged him, he still graduated at the top of his class.
I am gladly rating this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was enjoyable and educational. I did not know that Algeria was colonized by France until I read this book. I came across a spelling error during the course of reading this book, which shows that it was professionally well edited. I recommend this book to anyone who enjoys reading memoirs and revolutionary stories.
