The book Proud To Be Me Rosalinda Part II , by Jesse Moreno, is a great book that takes you into the life of a woman boxer and the ups and downs that life throws at her. The book is about Rosalinda, also known as Rose, who is the world featherweight champion in women’s boxing. It follows along with her struggles personally and in her career. The story starts a few months after Rose’s boyfriend had died and had won the championship title. She has her trainer Simon, who is always in her corner, along with Rick, Rose’s boyfriend. She fights for the United States and her home country, Mexico. Everyone wants to beat her and take away the title that she has worked so hard to achieve. In Rose’s personal life, her family is back in Mexico, whom she misses very much, along with her and Rick having bumps in the road with their relationship. Any distraction from fighting could cause her to lose her focus and her championship belt.

One of the positives about the book is I didn’t need to read the first book in the series to understand what was happening in this book. I didn’t read the first book in the series, but I was able to pick up the story on page one. The only thing that took some time to figure out was who Rob was. Rob was Rose’s boyfriend who had died months before this book took place. The book was a great read and pulled the reader into the story. I felt the high emotions when something amazing happened to Rose and also the hurt when someone close to Rose hurt her.

There were only two negatives throughout the whole book. The two issues I found were some grammatical/word use errors throughout the book and the confusion around Rob. Who Rob was could have been made clear earlier than what it was. Bringing up Rob, even briefly, and stating who he was and what had happened to him, would have prevented the confusion I had when I was reading.

I rate this book a 3 out of 4 stars. It was a great story, that really caught the attention of the reader. I am actually excited that the next book is already out, so I can go read that book in my spare time. The storyline and how relatable the characters are is why I couldn’t rate this book any lower than a 3. I couldn’t rate the book a 4, because of the grammatical and word errors throughout the story.

I would recommend this book for teens and youth adults. It is a great story of perseverance across the board. It shows the reader that no matter what your upbringing and where you come from, with hard work you can do anything you put your mind to. As I mentioned before, I can’t wait to read the next book to see what happens with Rose, Simon, and Rick and where they end up.
