Review of Seeking... Finding... Healing...
Seeking-Finding-Healing attempts to outline a radical way of finding emotional healing. The book introduces the concept of inner family healing. The concept looks at individuals as an amalgamation of the various selves they have aged through or will age to become. Thus the inner family includes your younger selves and the older selves you are yet to become. This well-written book promotes the idea that healing can be achieved through communicating with this inner family; finding ways to nurture the younger wounded selves and seeking wisdom from the older selves. I must admit I found the concept a bit out there at first. After some reflection, as I read the book, I came to look at it as just a radical way of dealing with emotional pain which might be useful to many seekers out there.
Becky Lu Jackson bares her soul in this radical book. The author attempts to provide a blueprint of the healing process while providing practical examples from her own life. The book also offers thoughts from those who have worked with the author. Given the radical nature of the healing process promoted by the author, the testimonials from past clients give credence to the process and allow the reader an opportunity to accept the veracity of the author’s claims.
I loved the author’s authenticity or vulnerability in allowing the reader a peek into how she has used the inner family healing process for herself. I also loved the fact that she doesn’t present her process as the panacea to all emotional problems and the author also mentions using help from trained professionals like psychologists.
At first, I did not like the whole idea of talking to your past selves or future selves as I found the entire idea strange however as I read on it kind of grew on me. I would recommend the book to those who are open-minded about spiritual practices which are non-conventional. I am not sure about the age groups the book is suited to, I assume that anyone at a point of seeking emotional healing might be suited to it.
I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars because the book is well written and engaging. I did not find any typos in the book and it looks like it was professionally edited.
I approached the book with an expectation to learn more about healing based on the title. I found the book to be true to its title though I found the healing methods rather unconventional.
