Review of Bama Boy
Bama Boy by Bobby Morrison is a story that describes the humble beginnings of Bobby. He was not opportune to be like the city boys, so sometimes he went to school while it rained and occasionally got bullied on the school bus or the street as he walked home. His father was a sharecropper who had nine boys and two girls.
Bobby goes to school on rainy days because it is difficult for him to pick cotton when it rains. He never liked the idea of going to school when it rained since he now had a girlfriend, but he needed to go to school more often for him to see her. Though Bobby didn’t have textbooks, he was one of the brilliant students in his class. Things started to get better for Bobby as he began to go to school more often. At the age of eleven, Bobby had gotten his driving license. From picking cotton in the farmland and earning $1.25 per month, he was now driving his school bus and was paid $32 per month, which he never believed could happen. He became famous in the school, as most girls were all over him. Bobby and his family moved into their own house.
I loved the way the book was fast-paced as I was eager to know how things turned out for Bobby and his family. Also, I admire Bobby's bravery as a young boy and how he always tried to help his family in any way he could. For a family of nine, I had always wished Bobby and his family to be happy. For example, Bobby went on a date with his girlfriend, and it has gotten late, only for his brother to show up and give him his Chevrolet car and ask him to go and drop his girlfriend at home. Bobby was so happy, and I wished things just remained peaceful for him.
The author managed to create a hero that I could relate to. I liked Bobby so much that at the end of the book, it felt like I knew him personally. I did not see any negative things in this well-written book, so I did not hate anything about it. This book kept me glued to find out more about Bobby.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 because reading the story of Bobby always made me happy that things were working out well for him. I also did not find any errors in this well-written book. Furthermore, I recommend this book to anyone who would love to read a fast-paced book and also to learn from the story of Bobby.
