A Dream for Peace is a memoir about the life of Dr Ghoulem Berrah and his quest for peace. He was born in Northern Algeria. His family was humble and very proud of their ancestral heritage. This background moulded him to become one of the greatest forefront warriors of Algeria's struggle for independence from France. As a young man, he was outright and loud about fighting the injustice and racism that flooded their country at the time. With the love and support of his equally patriotic and loving mother, he became a peace-hungry and scientifically-brilliant giant. He took risks that threatened his life because he believed that everyone had the right to their identity. He is the epitome of patriotism. He gave up a prestigious position in the European world to pursue his call for African peace.

Dr Ghoulem is an outstanding man who has lived an incredible life. His greatest achievement, in my opinion, is his respect for the beliefs and choices of individuals. He holds genuine love for everything, evident from his interactions with everyone. In this memoir, one gets a glimpse of what it means to be passionate and spread love and how it can impact humanity. He has rubbed shoulders with prominent people whose channels he has used to win his agenda for peace. In the 644 pages, all that oozed was pure love and a desperate need to see peace prevail.

What I loved most about this book is the ability of the author to express his deep desire for equality. He stood up for himself when attacked due to his race. He knew his rights and was not afraid to fight for them. I also applaud his bravery even in the face of danger. His streak was not easy, but he managed to stay focused on his agenda. I also fell in love with his respect for the Christian faith even though he is a Muslim. His genuine appreciation is evident from the fact that he is married to a black Christian woman and his descriptions of her faith. He is not insecure about it to the point where he attends some of her services. He also describes the Islamic Faith and how easy it can be to co-exist peacefully if we only took the time to tolerate one another. When September 11 happened, he was able to speak to a group of people about it. He explained why that was not what the Islamic faith is all about in a coherent manner. I applaud him for that.

The only thing I did not like about this book was its bulkiness. In the beginning, I was sceptical about reading it. I also had a difficult time trying to get into the story as it is slow-paced. However, as it progressed, the book became more interesting.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. It is a brilliant piece on how we could achieve world peace if only we had two or more people like the doctor. I found a few minor subjective errors that do not warrant a point deduction. I would recommend this book to people who love history told from a personal experience. People who love biographies will also appreciate reading this book.

I have read this book last year, and I absolutely enjoyed it. Dr. Ghoulem was a very extraordinary man who got to meet with icons during his tenure and the influence he had, which was made possible by the love for his country.
