Is it possible for humpback whales to have a language, or are they just the animals a lot of people think they are? Resonant by Robert Leet, a fictional novel about trying to use science and mathematics to decode the sounds of whales, has the answer to that. Joseph Tenatt is a retired mathematician, who recommends his friend Sonya Perez for a job on a secret mission with the Navy of the United States of America. When she gets suspicious about the true intentions of the mission and confides in Joseph, he gets caught between the work, astounding findings, secrecy and impending danger that makes it up.

The book was extremely interesting. I love the diversity of the genres; the mixture of science fiction, suspense and romance was excellent. But what I enjoyed more, was how the book seemed to include every topic under the sun; mathematics, science, music, history... even yoga! It was fascinating. I also appreciated how this book stayed within the borders of reality, a lot of books like this tend to derail, but this one did not.

However, the long discussions about mathematics and physics almost bored me. I understood most of what was being said, but I don't think we need that much detail. Yes, they were necessary, but the author should have taken into account the fact that there would be readers who have little or no knowledge in those areas.

I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. A star was deducted because of the lengthy discussions and explanations. Regardless, the book was good, and it was well edited. I saw no typographical errors.

I recommend this book for
mathematicians and scientists who would be familiar with the concepts of the book, and for those readers who enjoy a mixture of the two with a good dose of suspense. If you neither enjoy nor have a background in the subjects of mathematics and physics, this book is not for you. Due to the swearing, which was sparse, I don't suggest it for younger readers.
