Review of The MECE Muse
THE MECE MUSE 100+ selected practices, unwritten rules, and habits of great consultant, by Christie Lindor. "MECE" is an acronym for Mutually Exclusive and Collectively Exhaustive.
We have the author's story, in which she was "motivated" to write about her personal experience as it evolved and matured into a meaningful and rewarding career. It's a story about triumphs, difficulties, shifts in mental habits, and endless research. "The MECE rule is consulting language and for many management consultants a way of being, "Christine writes in her introduction. MECE is a technique for visualizing and understanding business challenges in order to fix the root cause .
This book is organized into three sections, each of which has multiple chapters. The first part discusses several consulting businesses and consultants. The author discusses etiquette, ethical ideals, and discipline in the first section, which focuses on the attitude of a successful consultant. The author debunks various myths regarding consulting careers in the second section, which discusses the performance and conditioning of excellent consultants. The third section discusses personal perspectives on a consulting career.
Although this book is not your normal get cozy on the sofa and enjoy a nice novel type of book, it's a helpful resource. I'd want to comment on how well the author communicated specific information, such as regulations, tactics, and essential foundational facts about consulting careers. Despite the fact that I have no personal knowledge or experience with consultations, I could tell that Christie Lindor, the author, was a professional specialist in the field. Even I found the book to be simple to read , follow along with, and comprehend. It's also exceptionally well edited.
Christine mentions others and provides real-life examples of her practice when creating this pretty comprehensive guide, such as this definition of a consult from a colleague: "I frequently use the analogy of a business doctor when people ask me what I do." It's hard to put into words what we do. What does it mean to be a strategy consultant? I assist in the diagnosis of problems in the same way that a doctor would. I begin by conducting a thorough analysis and assisting in the development of a plan to address the issue.
The author has emphasized the importance of simple politeness, honesty, integrity, and consideration for others throughout her presentation, as well as the importance of being able to equate with others and be a "team player," as well as perhaps the most basic need— the ability to build a situation of "trust."
In response to my dissatisfaction, the author claims that the idea for this book occurred to her on the first day of her first consulting job, when she had no experience or skills. I'm curious as to how she came to the conclusion that she could write a useful book.
I gave the book a 2 out of 4 star rating since everything about it was very obvious, and reading it did not teach me any new tricks or concepts.
Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in or has worked in the consulting field.
