Review of Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids
The book snatched up to heaven for kids Is a book by Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul. The book talks about a young girl Called Emma and her lovely, Christian family made up of her father, mother, her younger sister named Bella and a small child. Emma's parents have a habit of reading their children the Bible every night before they go to bed and this one night, Emma dreamt she had been taken up to heaven together with her younger sister Bella, where they both met with Jesus, God and other heavenly beings. When she woke up, Emma told her bewildering dream to the whole family which got everyone bubbling with exhilaration especially Bella who couldn't seem to contain her excitement after learning she had not only met Jesus but hugged and kissed Him as well albeit through her sister's dream. This begins Emma's nightly journey to heaven and every morning she woke up with new and exciting things about heaven that she recalled vividly as though she was there not in dreams but in reality. Her parents crisscrossed every information that Emma told them about heaven by the description given in the Bible and all the information seemed to check out.
Not only was Emma shown the beautiful scenery of heaven, she also got to meet people who were written in the Bible like Esther, Noah and many more. She also got to meet angels and saw the daily activities that took place in heaven that were full of happiness, dancing and singing, tranquility and harmony between people and wild animals like lions and the likes. Towards the end, Emma, via the help of Jesus visited a scary place where people were screaming and crying out in anguish and it was full of fiery fire that burnt everything and everyone. She was told that the place was called hell where people who did not believe would go. It was at this place that Emma's purpose became clear to her as she did not want to end up there neither did she want any one she knew to do so either.
The book as seen from the title is written for children and has its tone set in a manner that children would easily understand. It also has pictures of Emma's family and every visitation of both heaven and hell. This is important especially for kids because it not only helps them build their imagination on how heaven is but also makes it interesting for them to read. It also has cross references on the Bible verses where Emma's parents would read about heaven thus making it easy for the reader to find them as well.
For all the wonders and excitement that the book gives, I would give it 3 out of 4 stars for there were some things that left one a bit unsatisfied. For one, it does not have any introduction on who Jesus is or what heaven is but jumps right into the story. This makes it hard for any one who is not a Christian or does not have a good enough knowledge on heaven, God or Christianity to read and thoroughly understand thus narrowing it's targeted audience to a small margin. Secondly, it's written in a manner that is too repetitive and cumbersome for an adult to read while still being too lengthy and containing too many words for a child to enjoy without the help of the pictures. It would have helped if it only contained few but important words without making it feel repetitive and rushed at the same time.
That being said, the book still makes for a good Sunday school read and an enticing family book.
