Review of Yesterday
The book Yesterday by Samyann is a historical fiction/ romance novel. It follows a woman named Amanda Parker and a Chicago Police Department Officer Mark Callahan. They meet each other at a very unpleasant event. It is narrated in the third person point of view and mostly, follows Amanda and Mark’s perspective.
In the book we follow, Amanda who is quite fearful of letting anyone near her after suffering the loss of many loved ones. One day, on her way, she stumbles across Officer Mark Callahan and ends up saving his life. This event turns both their lives upside down. There is an instant connection between the two but due to Amanda’s past, she refuses to let Mark anywhere near. She fears that if he gets too close he might also die like all her other loved once. Mark tries his best to make sure that she realizes that he is not going anywhere. They both travel to times like the American Civil War and the Great Chicago Fire, 1871 to learn about the lives they once lived.
This book had a very strong aspect of historical fiction in it. Even though I don’t generally gravitate towards historical fiction, I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed it. Even though the book did change time periods continuously, it was executed very well. Suspense was also a part of the story. I always enjoy a good romance story. The characters in the book were quite enjoyable and even though at times, I found it difficult to relate with the characters, it did not affect my enjoyment. It was a fast-paced book and it was perfect for a quick read.
There was nothing that I did not like about the book.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. I enjoyed reading this book. The story was so different and unique. It was fast-paced and I flew through the book, that is something I always appreciate. The characters had proper development and I liked to know the reason for the decisions that were made. The book was edited well as I found no errors.
I would recommend this book to people who like the romance genre. The romance plot-line is one of the most important aspects of the book. Also, those who like historical fiction might like this book as it deals with many historical events. There is profanity and sexual content seen in the book. Trigger warning: grief and death are dealt with very strongly in the book.
