The Senators’s Suitcase by Mitch Engel is a fantastic narration that takes the reader of a thrilling adventure filled with secrets. It focuses on a suitcase that leads to the discovery of fascinating things. The story takes us on the grand adventure through love, family secrets, wealth and dark truths about the Davenport family. We follow Tray as he investigates into his mother’s past which leads to several shocking truths and internal conflict that will reshape how her looks at his family.

This beautiful story by Mitch Engel is a unique novel that is centered on the Davenport family. Troy Davenport discovers a suitcase that belonged to his late mum. Out of curiosity, Troy wants to know wants to know what is in it and little did he know that his whole life was going to change. He discovers parts of his mother’s life that he never knew about. This novel touches on sensitive concepts such as; physical abuse, sexual abuse and family politics. The author takes us on a mysterious journey as Troy investigates deep into his mum’s origins whilst learning more about the Davenport family. Troy’s life changes after he finds the suitcase that contains five million dollars and he learns about the workings of his grandfather.

I was not particularly impressed with the speed at which the story unfolds. There times that I found the plot of the story took too long to develop. The narration in the story could have had a better dialogue. These are very minor dislikes which I found unsavory however this was still a fabulous novel.

The Senator’s Suitcase has excellent characterization. The writing style was good and simple to understand. The narration of the story was commendable because it was easy to engage with as a reader. The structure and flow of events was executed in a logical manner which made the story very enjoyable.

The Senator’s Suitcase is a great novel and I rate it 3 out of 4 stars because it is well edited with no grammatically errors to my knowledge. It has a great story that would appeal to a large audience. I had to remove one star because I felt that the story should have been longer or should have made reference to a sequel. Regardless, this a beautiful story that is worth the read. The novel does contain profanity throughout the book.

This novel is suitable to mature readers that loving thrilling stories that will take the reader on an adventure through someone’s past.
