Warning! Any genuine reader would experience a volley of varied feelings after reading Chris Bowen's A Bloody Book. The title is what had me instantly click on it and made me want to review A Bloody Book. The title itself is quite different and interesting from the rest. To me, it resonates the level of frustration or a laid back attitude of the writer. As a result, it made Chris Bowen go, "that's a bloody book!"

The narrator of the story, Maxx is writing the story of his life. A Bloody Book is a story about the exact moment when he stopped caring about life. It is a story about a teacher who brought out the better side of his. A story about a time in his life when he most needed his family but didn't have one. A story so terrible and unsettling that you almost feel compelled to reach out to a thirteen-year-old boy and give him assistance and guidance through his ordeal.

The language was very casual and it felt as if Maxx was my cool dude friend complaining about his miserable life. The whole book sounded like a rant to me. And that's the beauty of it. You can easily relate and understand the feelings of Maxx because he is complaining. You feel pity for him.

The student-teacher interplay is one of the aspects of this book that I particularly enjoyed. It's the best it can be! As the author is a teacher, he got that portion correct.

The only criticism I have of this book is that it finished far too soon. I expected more of the narrative to pique my interest. I was curious to learn more about Maxx's life and how his storey progressed. What was Mr. Foxx's contribution? Did he have any effect on the students he was instructing? This book is excellent, but it is far too short. I'm hoping the author will create a sequel in the future.

I'd rate it a solid 3 out of 4 stars just because of the length. Although the book is geared for young adults, I see no reason why any adult should not read it. It will be a fantastic reading experience!

Thanks for the great review! This sounds like an interesting novel, so it's a shame that it ended so abruptly.

I am glad you felt a connection to the 13 year old boy and you would gladly volunteer to guide him were this story to play out in real life. I am not a fan of abrupt endings too. Great review.
