Official Review: Beyond Pipe Dreams and Platitudes
Most times, things don't always go as planned. We may be optimistic about things, but we forget that life is not always a bed of roses or how we fantasized it to be. This may make us unprepared for certain emotions, especially when things don't go as planned, thus leaving us devastated. We tend to bury these emotions in us rather than facing and dealing with them. This sadness, unknowingly to us, may have ignited several attitudes that have a great impact on our health, thus affecting the way we act, making us take poor decisions, which affects our lives negatively.
This topic, "Positive Thinking Isn’t All It’s Cracked Up to Be," and many more interesting topics, such as "Romantic love is mostly an emotion," "Luck and chance has been badly underrated," "Empathy and healthy religion go hand in hand," and many others are explored in this book, Beyond Pipe Dreams and Platitudes. Readers will learn various ways people are alike, irrespective of culture, religion, and skin colors.
Beyond Pipe Dreams and Platitudes by Geraldine K. Piorkowski gave an insight into love, narcissism, and luck. It is written based on the author's experiences while working as a clinical psychologist in various workplaces, ranging from medical schools, health clinics, private practice, psychiatrist hospitals, and universities, for over 50 years.
I fell in love with the author's writing style. It was soothing and expository. Also, I loved how practical and relatable the book was. The author revealed practical experiences she had with her patients and several experiments carried out on people to buttress her points on each topic. This, however, gave more insights about the topic treated. A handful of this was seen in the topic, "Romantic love is mostly an illusion."
In addition, the summary provided at the end of each chapter gave the book an excellent flavor. It was one of the few places I looked out for after reading each chapter because the solutions to all the topics treated were listed there. This was what I loved most about this book.
There was nothing I disliked about the book as it was explicitly edited, and I couldn't find any error. Therefore, I have no reason to deduct a star. Consequently, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars.
Choosing an audience that this book will appeal to was very difficult. However, I considered the topics explored and the benefits readers of all ages will gain from this book, and I concluded that young adults, adults, parents, and even aged people will find this book appealing, and I recommend it to them.
