Cat Boss by Tayma Tameem is good for a first draft, but not for a finished novel. Mostly, I enjoyed reading it, but the book was riddled with typographical and other errors. Because of that, I can only give the book a two out of four. If the editing problems were cleared up, it would be an easy, fun read.

The book follows Detective Devon Bates, a man so dedicated to his job that other parts of his life suffer. He is introduced to a woman, known as a crazy cat lady, at Thanksgiving dinner. She is the aunt of his brother's wife but they are almost the same age. She offers to help him solve crimes, particularly a robbery case that he has been working on. Eager for leads, he agrees to go to her home and hear her out. It's then she tells him that she can help solve crimes because she can telepathically communicate with cats. He must decide if he can trust her or if she really is a crazy cat lady. They agree to a trial run before agreeing to be partners. Eventually, he begins to ask himself if there is more to their relationship than a working partnership.

As a cat lover, I enjoyed the cats each having personality. I always find it fun to read about what a cat is thinking and what it does in its life. Generally, I enjoy mysteries, but Cat Boss isn't really focused on the mystery of Detective Bates' cases. Mostly they know who did it and just have to prove it and catch them. I didn't enjoy the human character development so much. Characters change too quickly and alter their beliefs abruptly for little reason. It does not ruin the book for me, but it can be distracting.

As I mentioned, the typos and technical errors did bother me. However, another bothersome issue is that of location vs. dialect. Early in the novel, it says that the story takes place in America. They are celebrating Thanksgiving, which is an American holiday. Yet, later in the story, the dialogue sounds distinctly British. Phrases such as, "Don't be daft," and "it was a proper babe magnet," are used in Britain and not so much in America. Again, it didn't stop me from enjoying the book, but I unconsciously switched the location in my head.

There is no vulgarity, bloodshed, or sexual scenes in Cat Boss. This novel is for someone who wants a fun book and can overlook typographical errors.
