Review by Sabihah -- First Love by Momi Robins
First love by Momi Robins-Makaila will make you cry and smile. It is the first book in a series of four: The Love of a Good Woman. The book is about Paige, a young women who had a traumatic childhood and is trying her best at life. She is a devout Christian and due to a saddening situation, she begins to question her faith in God. She is angry towards him for taking away something that was very new and loving to her. Regardless of what Paige has been through, she is such a strong character whose emotions you will follow through to the end of the book. There is a large religious base that is important to the book, and her beliefs are mentioned often. However, this should not deter readers.
Paige was from an abusive home during her childhood and is in love with two men in her adulthood; Lance Bishop and Jason Beckett. Lance proclaims his love for Paige, yet at that time Paige does not realise she loves him back. She ends up pregnant with Jason and they decide to marry as Jason wants responsibility for their child. However, things do not go as planned and Paige becomes lonely and wants to reconnect with her past love after a couple of years.
What I liked most about the book was how the main character overcomes whatever happens in her life, she is a strong being that the reader could learn from. Some things she goes through could be what the readers find relatable or may have been through something similar. I did not come across anything that I disliked in the book. However, there is some use of vulgar language which should not be an issue as it is scarce.
I would recommend this book to readers whom enjoy a romantic book set in real life. The book isn’t heavy on the typical romantic writing, it is based in real life and shows real struggles a person can face in life that can be depressing and miserable. Not to fear, however, read the book to see Paige’s story and how she deals with whatever is thrown at her. Those of the Christian religion may enjoy this book more due to the religious beliefs mentioned in the book that the believer could relate to. Nonetheless, I am not a Christian and still enjoyed the book immensely.
I would rate this book four out of four stars. It was edited well as I did not come across any mistakes that deterred my reading. The book flows very nicely making it easy to understand the story, ensuring you don’t miss anything.
