Review by victorokothcads -- We are Voulhire: Someone El...
WE ARE VOULHIRE: SOMEONE ELSE END by Matthew Tyzs is a book about the fall of Voulhire, a powerful country. Meldorath dreamt about the emperor of Lullabies, whose abilities were incomprehensible. By then, King Wilhelm was hearing a refugee’s case that was represented by Sophie.
Rowan went to Black Rose looking for Glen. After he found him, they went together with Demetrius to Virko via Soulhire. The refugee’s case was on in the palace when Soulhire was under attack. Both the king and other citizens died, and Nartik took the throne. Meldorath had convinced Maido, a chancellor, to crown Nartik as the king. In return, he took away some documents from the palace’s archives. While the attack was cooling, another attack was launched not only by Riva’s army also by the demons. They attacked Voulhire and the neighboring lands.
My favorite part is the author’s use of irony in the life of Demetrius, a monk who smokes; more ironical when Galen asked him whether smoking was healthy or not, his response was, he doesn’t inhale it but only enjoys the taste.
I found some gaps in the book. Some paragraphs are in a poetic pose with no poetry intended while reading. There is improper punctuation in some sentences. Some events don’t smoothly flow, the last chapters flow, while the first chapters were underdeveloped. There are few details on why Prince Darius couldn't inherit the kingship after his father died. Rowan, Demetrius, and Galen started a journey from the Land of Prince to Virko via Voulhire with checking on the demons in Virko as their focus. They stayed in Voulhire and did not make it to Virko.
I have a different opinion on the use of too much dialogue in this novel; narration should dominate. Furthermore, the refugee’s case got insufficient attention. The book ends before the verdict. Demetrius has been away for religious matters, but when he came back to Black Rose, he only mentioned the restructuring of the church by Eiodi. I did not like the use of the word "f*ck" several times, about 13 times in the book.
I recommend the book for people who enjoy fiction novels and those who follow the “We are Voulhire” series. I may not recommend it to people who are religious as there are parts that contradict religion (Not even God has the authority or the knowledge to set you on your feet. page 71)
I give the book a rating of 2 out of 4. There are several characters and themes which were underdeveloped. The transition of events is not smooth. Although it’s a fiction book, it seems to be mixing ancient times and modernity. Generally, it lacks proper editing.
