Shifting sands by Barry Litherland was a great read. I could not put it down from the very first page. The way in which the characters are introduced and how much personality is packed into the book is fascinating. The book is writing in first person and is about a journalist, Phil Tyler, he is told about an unusual encounter involving a naked man near a place called Westleigh Lodge; by a man called Winston. This starts Phil’s journalist journey; his strong-willed manner and determination lead him down a dangerous and secretive path, meeting curious people along the way, to find out the hidden truth, no matter what.

The book has a good amount of profanity; however, this is mostly used to showcase how the characters are, especially Winston. Therefore, should not be off putting to anyone as it is not extreme or vulgar. The book is written exceptionally well and is fast paced. There is not one boring aspect, every chapter leads you wanting more. I believe that the way the book was written played a huge role on my positive review, it flowed well and the characters development was amazing.

The best part of this book was the characters, so much personality and very likeable. You wanted to follow their story and get to the end of the book to finally find out what happens. You can tell that the author has put deep thoughts and a lot of effort and hard work into creating a masterpiece. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and could not find a fault or any reason to dislike the book in any way.

I recommend this book to those who enjoy a good, quick read of mystery and suspense as they would definitely enjoy it. The age range I would recommend this book to are late teens and adults. Give the book a read, you won’t regret it! Due to the profanities, I would not recommend this book to those that are put off by curse words.

After a thorough read, I did not notice any mistakes in the book, it seems to be edited very well, therefore, I am rating this book a deserving four out of four stars. The author has done a brilliant job on this captivating story and has created marvellous characters that stay with you!
